Caleb Farley lost his father, Robert Farley, in a house fire in August 2023. He was young when he also lost his mother, Robin Farley.
Robert and Robin were reportedly high school sweethearts. They met at Maiden High School and married in 1987. The couple was married for 31 years. Two years after their wedding (1989), Robert and Robin had a son, Joshua. The 34-year-old was a track and field athlete at Appalachian State.
Although both children excelled in sports, Robert described Joshua as a “quiet person”. “Small-town North Carolina has always felt claustrophobic to him,” the publication said. “He saw how much more was out there.”
Furthermore, Joshua’s LinkedIn profile describes him as “a project management professional with 10 years of experience in a variety of technology and business environments.” The former athlete has been a senior project manager at HIMSS since March 2022, having previously worked for organizations such as Bank of America.
When Caleb was in high school, his mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer.
“It was never a big deal to me,” Caleb said ESPN. “In the household, it was always something that would be resolved. I was a child, but I thought I knew that he would get well and that the ending would be a fairy tale. And I’m glad that’s the case, because there was always joy in the house.”
He also talked about how the event improved his relationship with God.
“When I saw my mother go through it and believe she could heal, and then see it come back and kill her, it hurt my faith at first,” Caleb told ESPN in 2021. “But I believe you have to serve the Lord when it is good and bad. I made a decision to trust God. I would be lost without him.”
Caleb once hoped his mom might live long enough to see him play a game for Virginia Tech, but she was gone eight months by the time he intercepted two passes against Florida State in his 2018 college debut.
More than three years after her death, he found comfort in her absence. “He’s in a better place now because this world is turning evil. She shouldn’t have been here,” Caleb said. “The world is moving further and further away from God every day.”
On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, just after midnight, the Tennessee Titans star’s $2 million property exploded about 18 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina. The explosion killed Caleb’s father, Robert, 61, and injured another, said Kent Green, director of fire and emergency management for Iredell County.
