Two U.S. soldiers were shot dead by a man in an Afghan army uniform with a squad of soldiers, according to U.S. authorities on Saturday.
Six others were injured. The shooting happened in Nangarhar province, where a US-Afghan group of soldiers was returning home from a military operation, according to a spokesman for US forces in Afghanistan.
“We have more information about the collection. The reason and motive for the attack is still unknown,” the spokesman said.
There are about 13,000 US soldiers in Afghanistan who are deployed as part of the NATO mission in the Afghan forces and to carry out operations against terrorism in the region.
Two weeks ago, an American plane crashed in Afghanistan, killing at least two people in the future. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the downing of that aircraft, but the US authorities have always denied it.
The United States is negotiating a peace agreement (cpa) with the Taliban in Afghanistan. A ceasefire was agreed at the end of last year.
