If there’s one genre that the Xbox series of consoles has struggled to break into in the past, it’s RPGs. Yes, each system had a featured title or two, as the original Xbox did Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and 360 having The Lost Odyssey, but this particular family of consoles has always been considered secondary for RPG fans compared to Sony’s or even Nintendo’s machines. With the release of the Xbox Series X, Microsoft made a big effort to fill that gap in its library and has already done a great job of publishing, or at least supporting, some of the best RPGs of recent memory.
What is considered an RPG today covers a wide range of games. They can be turn-based, real-time, action-oriented, narrative-driven, first-person, and more.
