He spent 20 years at Classic FM from 1994 before moving to Jazz FM, where he hosted the station’s breakfast show and later presented the afternoon drive slot.

His family said Tuesday that Crick died after a “short illness.”

A spokesperson for Bauer Media UK said: “Jamie Crick has been a broadcaster throughout and has played an important role on our radio stations.

“He was also a great friend to his colleagues at Jazz FM, Scala Radio and the wider Bauer Media teams. He will be greatly missed by all, as will his friends and listeners.

“Our radio stations have a great void to fill and will pay tribute accordingly in the near future, but while everyone comes to terms with Jamie’s unexpected death, they will continue to broadcast the music he loved in his honor every day.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones at this time.”

Crick joined Bauer Media UK’s Jazz FM in 2014 as a guest presenter before taking over the breakfast show, then moving to the afternoon slot in 2016.

He spent around 20 years at Global Classic FM from 1994 and was the Creative Director of Gaydar Radio.

His fellow radio presenter Simon Bates wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “So sad to learn that Jamie Crick has died. When I first started at Classic FM, Jamie was a reservoir of support, kindness and good humour.”

BBC South and BBC South East deputy editor-in-chief Mark Carter, who has seen Crick join the corporation’s local teams, wrote: “I am extremely saddened to hear of the death of Jamie Crick.

“Long before his national career, I heard Jamie on County Sound and thought… I’d love to be that kind of host.

“Many years later, I was delighted to welcome him to the @BBCSussex @BBCSurrey family.”

Crick also co-founded Encore Radio, which celebrated the music of musicals, in 2018 and also presented a program about the form of theater on Bauer’s Scala Radio.

Nick Pitts, Jazz FM’s director of content, said: “I’m very happy. I’ve made friends with some great people who I also work with. @Jamie_Crick was one of those very special people I had a lot of time for.

Someone who cared for others, loved to be on the air even today, someone who left our world.
