Getting FOMO because you don’t have a VR headset? The technology has really broken into the mainstream recently, with low-cost headphones popping up from a variety of companies. HP’s Reverb G2 VR headset goes on sale this weekend. It’s down to just $449 after a $150 discount. If you needed an extra push to finally buy one, this might be it. Read more about it below, then head over to HP and grab one before the sale ends.

Why you should buy the HP Reverb G2 V2

Where the HP Reverb G2 V2 really stands out is visual clarity for the price. While it won’t top something like the Valve Index in resolution, the Reverb manages a very impressive 2160 x 2160 per eye panel, which means it even beats something like the Quest 2’s 1832×1920 per eye. The V2 also brings a lot more tracking cameras, which is very evident given the wider tracking field that reaches just below the waist and around eye level. Again, it won’t beat something like the Index with its base stations, but it’s impressive for something that’ll cost you less than $500. You’ll miss out on things like full-body tracking, though, which could be important for VR chat.

Another important thing for VR chat and other social applications is the capacitive touch on the controllers, which Revervb G2 V2 unfortunately does not have. This also means that you will need to remap many games since most of them expect your VR headset to have them. Still, if you don’t do a lot of social VR chatting or just want a great headset for playing PC VR games, then you’re not missing out much, and thankfully the tracking accuracy is excellent. One thing to note is that these aren’t standalone headphones like the Quest 2, so yeah want I need a fairly large desktop, probably something with an RTX 3080 or better. However, you can still get by with less powerful stuff if you don’t mind running Reverb to its full potential.

Choosing a good virtual reality headset can be difficult, especially since the technology is still relatively new and it’s all about trade-offs with high prices. Even so, the Reverb G2 V2 offers the best clarity for the $449 price you can get on HP’s website.
