Every season, Call of Duty: Warzone it gets a set of new weapons, most of which are usually worth using. One weapon that was added as part of the Season 4 update was the Nail Gun, an SMG/Special Weapon hybrid that deals massive damage. It is definitely suitable for players who like to run and shoot while getting up close and personal. The only problem is that its unlock requirements are strict and probably not very descriptive.
Of course, you can always fork over your hard-earned COD points to simply buy it from the in-game store, but if you’re short on funds, you’ll want to take a different approach. In this guide, we will show you how to unlock a nail gun Call of Duty: Warzone.

The reason so many players gravitated towards the Nail Gun is because of its high close-range damage profile. This weapon won’t get you very far, but when used up to 10 meters away, it does devastating damage. According to TrueGameData, the Nail Gun does 64 damage to the chest, 50 to the abdomen and limbs, and 81 to the head. This means you can kill an enemy with four to five shots at up to 10 meters. With stats like that, it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular choice.
By comparison, the MP5 (CW) can eliminate a fully armed enemy in six to nine shots at close range. It’s worth noting that the Nail Gun has a slower rate of fire of 515 rpm (velocity per minute) compared to the MP5 (CW), which fires at 854 rpm. But even still, the Nail Gun has the potential to eliminate a player much faster than the MP5 (CW), even with a slower rate of fire. Another unique thing about the nail gun is that it does not allow any attachments. But that’s okay because it’s great the way it is. Just make sure you get used to its small 20 magazine size.
Warzone Nail Gun Unlock Methods

The biggest problem with the Nail Gun is actually unlocking it. There are four methods to get your hands on it, and we’ll detail them below:
Unlocking the nail gun through Warzone
The cheapest but most time-consuming method of unlocking a nail gun is to earn it War zone yourself. To do this, you need to get five kills with a special weapon in 15 different matches. Special weapons are:
- M79 grenade launcher
- Ballistic knife
- R1 Shadowhunter
War zone doesn’t really have a special weapons section, but rest assured these are weapons that fall into that category.
If you’re going to use this method, we recommend jumping into a Plunder match, heading to Storage Town on the west side of the map, and using whatever special weapon you’re comfortable with. Unfortunately, they’re all pretty awful, but we’ve had the best luck with the M79 grenade launcher. The strategy is to hover over the Storage Town and then land right on top of the enemy before pelting them with a grenade. Then retract your parachute just before you hit the ground.
If you get close enough before you hit the ground, you’ll have a better chance of eliminating them in one hit. Keep repeating this process until you get five kills, then end the match as usual. Repeat this 14 more times to complete the challenge and unlock the nail gun.
Based on our testing, it doesn’t appear that you can quit a match before it ends to still get credit for the challenge. Some players have reported the challenge tracking even after quitting early, but this seems to have been patched. Also note that if you want to use the ballistic knife to complete the challenge, you must use a projectile instead of a melee.
Heist matches can take up to 20 minutes, so it will take you a few hours to unlock weapons using this method. But it’s a free option!
Unlocking the Nail Gun through Black Ops Cold War multiplayer
You can then unlock the nail gun Cold war multiplayer. From War zone shares progression with Cold war, you can unlock a weapon in one game and use it in another. The requirements for this are actually the same as in War zone: Kill five people with special weapons in 15 different matches. The thing is, Cold war matches are much faster than Plunder matches in War zone, so this method is actually the fastest, provided you have a copy of the game. For the fastest results, we recommend playing on Nuketown ’84, as these matches only last about 10 minutes — sometimes less.
Unlocking the Nail Gun through Black Ops Cold War Zombies
Another way to unlock the nail gun Cold war is by playing zombies. To do this, you need to achieve 25 eliminations with a special weapon in 12 completed regions in Outbreak. Let’s explain what that means because it’s confusing. Again, the special weapons are listed above, so use one of them in your pack and start the match for Outbreak. A completed region is one for which you have completed the main objective.
The game will give you an objective in each of the regions, and once you complete it and move to the next region via the teleportation device, it will count as a completed region. So basically, get your 25 kills, complete the region, then check the in-game counter to make sure it’s giving you credit. Note that you do not need to complete all 12 regions in one match to unlock the weapon. Your progress carries over from match to match.
Nail gun unlock by purchase
The last and easiest way to get a nail gun is to buy one. The Puncture Wound blueprint gives you instant access to a nail gun for 1000 COD points, which can be earned by leveling up the Battle Pass or by purchasing with real money. Buying this blueprint with real money will cost you around $10.
