World of Warcraft: Shadowlands dungeon guide: How to survive the Necrotic Wake

Necrotic Wake is the first dungeon you’ll likely wander into during the course Land of shadows campaign story. If you haven’t played World of Warcraft in a good couple of years, you might be surprised to hear that you can’t just “tank and punch” your way through it. It’s not exactly Heroic or Mythic level of difficulty, but ignore the not-so-obvious boss mechanics, and you could spend 10 minutes fighting just one of them. Here is a complete Necrotic Wake boss guide with every strategy you need to know.

How to unlock

Before we dive into the details of the various bosses in the dungeon, it’s important to know how to unlock it. Necrotic Wake unusually unlocks as soon as you hit level 51. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fashion, it should circle the center of the screen by the time you reach 51, quietly letting you know it’s there to explore.

Additionally, you won’t get a digging mission until level 53 and breaking through the Bastion. However, this means you are free to run it out of turn to grab your Daily Dungeon reward for EXP and a good chunk of change. Just don’t be surprised if the story makes absolutely no sense yet.

Blightbone

As much as the dungeon unlocks unanimously, you could trigger a Blightbone fight without really noticing. He’s not the biggest boss and, given the large packs of mobs you fight your way through as soon as the dungeon starts, it’s only natural to miss the moment he joins the fray.

Basically, Blightbone is a typical tank-and-spank boss fight. With a competent and well equipped team, you can burn him down without worrying about area attacks melting your HP like a bath bomb.

The main mechanic to watch out for here is the Heaving Wretch, which targets random targets. After it finishes casting, Blightbone will vomit over the target, covering a large area of the cone in an acidic stream. The target should place this away from the team. For each player hit, a worm will spawn, dealing damage over time and eventually exploding, creating another no-go zone on the floor. Deal with them before they burst.

Of course, all the tank really needs to do is focus on drawing Blightbone away from the lingering pools of gas and slag so the other players in the crowd can do their work.

Amarth

Amarth doesn’t require as much movement as Blightbone, but there are little extras to deal with as you whittle down his health pool. It spams Necrotic Bolt casts and auto-attacks the tank, so interrupt casts as often as you can to mitigate the outgoing damage.

Not long into the fight, Amarth summons a few mob and caster flavored adds, who will happily try to make your healer’s life a bit of a nightmare. The tank should try to peel them or DPS players can focus on burning them.

Amarth will eventually use Final Harvest, gaining a buff stack for each surviving monster. He should be practically dead by the time this happens if you mostly ignore adds, but for low DPS groups that are swamped in those final moments, burning adds should solve the problem.

Surgeon Stitchflesh

This is where things get a little more complicated. Without thinking about it, the fight against Surgeon Stitchflesh can become an endless brawl against his undead constructs. This guy sits on top of a platform that is completely inaccessible for most of the fight — unless you use the constant swarm of passes he summons against him.

In the first few moments of the fight, you will be going up against his three assistants, who will try to tear off your flesh to use as material in their work. Some of their attacks cannot be taunted, so healers will need to keep an eye on the red markers above players’ heads to prepare their triage. This is a small clue on how to finish the fight.

Burn them and Surgeon Stitchflesh will summon Goregrind, the first of his many Stitches-esque monstrosities, and additional “bits”. Goregrind will randomly cleave targets, so healers will have to watch out for any additional team damage. Burn that and add down and you’ll be going up against Rotspew (and his “leftovers”).

Instead of cleaving, this abomination will target a random target. Just like with the first boss, casters should get out of the puddle of acid left behind to avoid any unnecessary incoming damage, while tanks will need to kick the boss out of any puddle to give the DPS in the crowd a chance to do their job. without melting.

After Rotspew is knocked out, a trick to kill Surgeon Stitchflesh arrives: Stitchflesh’s Creation. This unnamed beast uses a Meat Hook to pull a chosen target towards it. The marker for this attack appears and disappears before he begins the roll.

Instead of dodging or taking a hit, when the marker appears, the target should be placed between the monster and the Stitchflesh surgeon himself. After it disappears, step to the side and the grappling hook will grab the boss, bringing the real boss into the arena for you to punish. Burn him before he gets back up on the platform or you’ll have to do it again.

Nalthor the Rimebinder

Right after the fight with Surgeon Stitchflesh, you are taken to the top of the dungeon to face Nalthor Rimebinder. It’s a small area designed to get you in trouble. Throughout the fight, Nalthor will send dozens of comets hurtling towards the team from above, so staying on your feet becomes an absolute must. Three or four hits will completely destroy you in a second or two.

At some point, “Exile” will be cast on a random DPS, who will then be thrown into one of the corridors on the side of the area. Use whatever means necessary to get to the other side while avoiding the usual hellish rain from above, and you’ll have to deal with one (slick) mob. Pack it in and you’ll be taken back to where the real action is.

Keep dancing to avoid the comets and you should get through this fight without too much trouble. This is really up to the healer. There isn’t much time to cast, and without healing the team doesn’t stand a chance. Maintain healing effects over time for the best chance of auto-negating a bug or two.
