Grupe became an undrafted free agent and signed with the Saints in April. At the University of Notre Dame, he made 14 of his 19 field goal attempts with success in one season. He competed against Will Lutz, who has been a member of the team since 2016, but his worst season is behind him.
Lutz made only 23 of 31 shots from the field, a career-low 74.2 percent. The groups will certainly give Lutz and New Orleans something to think about if he continues to hit when under pressure. Saints coach Dennis Allen is already delighted with the rookie.
