Donald Sutherland makes a call from the afterlife in Mr. Harrigan’s Phone

When you’ve written as many stories as Stephen King has, some of them tend to blend together. So if the first trailer for Mr. Harrigan’s phone reminds you of A suitable student, then it is understandable. Both stories revolve around a teenager who forms a strange bond with an older mentor. But while Mr. Harrigan is not a Nazi, he is not innocent either. And as you can see in the trailer below, Harrigan may also be responsible for the murderous rampage beyond the grave.

Mr. Harrigan’s phone | Official trailer | Netflix

Veteran actor Donald Sutherland plays Mr. Harrigan in the film, but most of the film seems to take place from the perspective of Craig (Jaeden Martell). By all accounts, Craig is a normal boy who suffers terrible torment and bullying at school. That’s one of the reasons why Craig turned to Harrigan for advice. And when Harrigan dies suddenly, Craig finds himself emotionally bereaved without his guidance. This leads to some questionable choices.

If Mr. Harrigan really does rise from the grave to kill Craig’s tormentors, then it’s probably the kid’s fault. Who leaves a working phone next to a dead man’s body? And it’s always a bad idea to pay for cell service in hell. If the damned want to call the living, then they should call toll!

Of course, there is also the possibility that Craig is simply losing his mind. But in King’s stories, the ending is almost always supernatural.

John Lee Hancock wrote and directed Mr. Harrigan’s phonewhich will premiere on Netflix on October 5.
