NASA video shows tattered remnants of a star’s supernova explosion

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) uses stunning stock footage to give people a glimpse of the vast world beyond Earth. NASA’s social media posts not only amaze people, but also educate them. A good example of this is this Instagram video of the remnants of a supernova explosion.

The video was posted on an Instagram page dedicated exclusively to NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. “Ride the (Shock) Wave! This time-lapse video shows Hubble images of the Swan Loop, the ragged remnants of a supernova explosion, taken in 2001 and 2020. The remnant’s shock front expanded over time, traveling into interstellar space at over half a million miles per hour (~ 805,000 km/h)”, reads the part of the title published with the video.

NASA also added a description of the video in the description. “Two images labeled 2001 and 2020 flash back and forth. They show an orange ribbon of light running horizontally against a star-studded black space. The tape seems to be spreading,” it says.
