“That’s the frustrating part about where I’m at … I have to explain not only to Rachael but to the rest of America why these things are debatable because we don’t have that opportunity to get this ignorance,” Matt said on Good Morning America on Tuesday, March 16. . “Consider Breonna Taylor, consider Tamir Rice, they didn’t have that opportunity to be ignorant”
On After the Final Rose, Matt told Emmanuel Acho that he and Rachael split after she cried over her ex on Instagram last month.
“As someone who grew up in the South, it takes me in a location that I don’t like to think about very often. It was in that moment and the conversation that I was having, that Rachael might not know what it means to be black in America,” he explained. “It’s heartbreaking. If you don’t know that something like that is debatable in 2018, there’s a good part of me that you won’t know. It’s that simple… You know what was a long time ago? Plantations.”
Rachael admitted to her character that she was “blindsided” by the divorce.
“My first reaction was that I was quite confused. I was quite blindsided,” informed Achoa. “But after that initial reaction kicked in, I thought, you know, how powerful I thought our relationship was. To end things, like, he had to be really, really hurt by everything. It’s been challenging, ever since I lost my love of your life”
