MSRP $1,249.00

“When used properly, the stain-fighting power of this Electrolux machine is impressive.”

Avg

  • Revolving door of the washing machine

  • Put a lot in the machine

  • Better performance when using POD

  • Steam option for deep cleaning

Against

  • Overall long wash cycles

  • Bad at fighting stains when using only detergent

  • There is no possibility to wash hands

The Electrolux Perfect Steam™ front-loading washing machine with LuxCare Wash and SmartBoost is designed to fight stains. When used properly with the right stain removers, it does a decent job. However, these features are a waste for people who just like to use laundry detergent and nothing else.

Big and bold

A white (also available in gray) washing machine is full of whistles, and most of them have only one goal: to remove stains. In true Electrolux fashion, the front-loading model is attractive – the type of machine you’d expect to see in a bespoke home. Perhaps our favorite design feature is the washer’s double doors, so it can work in any large space with plumbing restrictions.

In true Electrolux style, the front-loading washing machine is attractive – the type of machine you’d expect to see in a bespoke home.

The 4.4-cubic-foot washer measures 38 x 27 x 32 inches (H x W x D), so it’s not ideal for more compact laundry rooms. Those dimensions aren’t far off the slightly larger Maytag MHW6630HC0 at 4.8 cubic feet. Electrolux’s companion dryer, the Electrolux EFME627UTT, is a similar size. Like most washing machines these days, you can purchase an additional 15-inch stand to place it on, so you don’t have to bend over to use the washer.

A simple board

Electrolux’s Perfect Steam front-loading washing machine has loads of settings and we found navigating them a breeze. The cycle selection has options for Heavy Duty, Whitest Whites, Normal, Acitvewear, Color, 15-Minute Quick Wash, Delicates, Rinse & Spin and Clean Washer. After choosing a setting, you can adjust the temperature (disinfection, hot, warm, cold and faucet color), the type of soiling (hard soiling, max., heavy, normal and light) and the spin speed (max., high, medium, low and no centrifuges).

For extra stain-fighting power, you can also choose between StainSoak and Perfect Steam. When using the StainSoak feature, you’ll also be able to set the type of stain you’re trying to remove (chocolate, blood, or any stain). There are also options for extra rinse, wrinkle removal, extended refresh, rinse delay and control lock. As with most washing machines, there are limits to the options you can add to your wash.

On the far right side of the panel you’ll find the Start/Pause, Cancel and PODS buttons. The far left side of the machine has a pull-out drawer where you can put detergent, fabric softener, bleach and even capsules. If you choose to use the pod for your washing needs, then you will also press the PODS button on the panel. There’s also a compartment for stain treatment fluid that you’ll want to fill up if you’re using the StainSoak feature. This option adds about 10 minutes to the cycle.

The LED screen also has various instructions. With a large digital timer (you can see how much time is left from a long distance away), you can select the type of stain you want to treat, mute the sound and see if your wash combination is eco-friendly. The letters Door Close will light up when the door is not locked.

After placing the items in the device, press the power button to select your settings. The digital display shows the relevant icons and the estimated time it will take to load. We should note that many cycles on this machine are longer than an hour. However, if you’re in a hurry and have a small load, a 15-minute cycle will do a decent job of cleaning clothes that aren’t loaded with stains.

A blemish on performance

Despite all the stain removal options available, we really wanted to be wowed by the Electrolux 600 series washing machine. Unfortunately, not so much. We can say that using POD instead of standard detergent made a significant difference. This is probably because there is usually more to POD than just detergent. However, in our tests, as is the practice, we used only basic HE detergent and did not add any additional stain suppressants or washing agents.

Using POD instead of standard detergent makes a significant difference in performance.

Over the course of several months, we performed various loads and were satisfied with the results. When it came time to test the stain removal capabilities, the results were somewhat mixed. We washed a basic load of clothes with minimal stains on Delicates and selected Normally Soiled, Cold and Low spins and removed almost all stains. To be fair: one item had a stain that we’ve been trying to remove for months.

To really put it to the test, we splashed cooking oil, red wine, and hot sauce over t-shirts, heavy cotton shorts, polos, khakis, and button-down shirts. We let those stains go for a few hours. We did not use any stain remover and washed these items using the normal setting with warm temperature, normal soil, medium spin and perfect steam. Although these settings are not necessarily optimal for fighting stains on this machine, this is how we usually test all washing machines. Sixty-eight minutes later, when the cycle was complete, we still saw the remains of quite a lot of stains. When washing the laundry again on a longer cycle using some of the anti-stain settings specific to this model, the results were much better and almost all the stains disappeared.

Warranty information

The Electrolux washing machine comes with a one-year limited warranty that covers parts and labor. During the second year of ownership, Electrolux will pay for the replacement of defective parts. In addition, the manufacturer guarantees the inner washing tub during the functional life of the product and the motor of the tub for ten years. Work is not included after the first year.

Our opinion

In the end, an Electrolux front-loading steam washer with LuxCare Wash and SmartBoost can do a decent job of fighting stains, but you’ll need to make sure you’re using the correct stain removers and settings. If you’re someone who likes to use PODs, then you’ll appreciate having a dedicated spot for them in the dispenser, and you’ll likely get more stain-fighting power from them. However, if you don’t like adding extra cleaning products to your laundry load, this might not be the best choice.

Is there a better alternative?

We were more impressed with the Electrolux EFLS537UIW front-loading washing machine with the LuxCare washing system, which costs less and removes stains better when you only use laundry detergent. However, the model is slightly smaller. Additionally, Electrolux models generally have deceptively large tubs, so you should be able to fit large duvets in them with ease. It really depends on what you want, and our washer and dryer buying guide can help you decide which features are most important to you.

How long will it last?

Front-loading washers usually don’t last as long as top-loading machines. they tend to last longer than front-loading washers. Experts say that a washing machine should last between 10 and 14 years, and probably closer to 10 to 14 years.

Should you buy it?

We weren’t all that impressed with the machine’s stain-fighting abilities—even though there were a ton of them. For a washer costing over $1,200, it should have cleaned clothes better. If you need a washing machine with a hinged door, we recommend looking at other Electrolux models with some basic stain-fighting features.
