TV advice that takes you on vacation

On September 27, in good time before the presidential elections in the USA, comes a drama that can make Donald Trump’s head hurt. Or at least want to post a few tweets.

The miniseries “The Comey Rule” in the previous presidential election of 2016. It is based on James Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty”, which caused a storm in the US when it was released in April 2018.

Only a year earlier, Trump fired Comey as head of the FBI, after he led the so-called Russia investigation – that is, an investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election.

A Dagbladet reviewer called Comey’s book “a personal reckoning with the president who gave it to him.” In connection with the launch, the writer stated that Trump is “morally unfit to be president” and that he treats women like “pieces of meat.” Later that spring, he wrote an op-ed in the New York Times, where he claimed the president was “eating the soul” of his employees. On his page, Trump called Comey “slimål”, “leakkemaker” and “lies”, as well as “the worst FBI director in history”.

In the new TV series, which must be shown on the American channel Showtime, Jeff Daniels plays James Comey. Daniels previously played FBI Special Agent John O’Neill in the 9/11 series “The Looming Tower,” and is known for starring in series such as “The Newsroom” and “Godless.”

“The Comey Rule” also has some star names on the roster, most notably Irishman Brendan Gleeson who plays Donald Trump. The teaser trailer released a few days ago (see above) suggests he’s done extensive work with both welding and speech – just listen to him say “let’s record”.

Director and screenwriter Billy Ray, however, claims to Vanity Fair that they toned down several of the most distinctive aspects of the president’s appearance in an attempt to “play it fair” and avoid turning him into a cartoon figure.

In other roles we find Kingsley Ben-Adir as Barack Obama, and Holly Hunter (“The Piano”, “Succession”), Michael Kelly (“House of Cards”), Jennifer Ehle (“Pride and Prejudice”, “The Menacing Tower”) and ^ the London premiere of Chaplin (“Game of Thrones”). Director Ray is even known for his work on films such as “Captain Phillips”, “The Hunger Games” and “Terminator: Dark Fate”, as well as the political drama “State of Play”.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ray says this is the first non-satirical dramatic portrayal of Trump.

– This is not Alec Baldwin, whom I normally love – he says, referring to the sketches of the TV program “Saturday Night Live”.

– Latterliggøres worldwide Thanks to the first no

“No matter which side you’re on, you only know half the story,” claims the new teaser trailer.

Billy Ray is sure that “everyone” will find something to hate in the miniseries, and reveals that Gleeson and several other actors were originally told not to play Trump, because they couldn’t handle all the motbøren that such a role would entail. But Gleeson eventually changed her mind. And it was Billy Ray who advocated that the series premiere before the presidential election, and not after, that was the original plan.

– I think that democracy and our position are currently at stake and I want this series to be part of the conversation, he tells Vanity Fair.

The series will be sent in two parts, and it is not yet known whether it will be shown in Norway. HBO Nordic has sent multiple Showtime series in the past, but tell the News that until “The Comey Rule” it’s the hostlist.

A grotesque pleasure to behold
