Kaylee Timonet, a student at Walker High School, was photographed at a private event in Livingston Parish Country. The video showed her dancing behind a friend who was twerking. After the video was shared on social media, the principal of Walker High School said she would be stripped of her leadership role and help with scholarship applications, the Guardian reports.

In an interview for Unfiltered with Kiran, Timonet shared that she was called to the principal’s office, where they made her watch her dance video.

“They basically told me that I should be ashamed of myself and that they were worried about my afterlife if I didn’t follow God’s ideals basically, which made me cry even more,” Timonet told Unfiltered with Kiran. She further added, “I felt like my life was over. Everything I worked for from a young age, he always worked hard in school. Being student of the year, at least having the opportunity to do so, has always been my main goal. I’m starting college this January. I finished in December so it was a shock.”

Rachel Timonet, Kayleen’s mother, met separately with the principal because she felt left out of the initial conversation with her daughter. She also questioned the principal for questioning her daughter’s religious beliefs.

According to the New York Post, the school community sold T-shirts with the slogans “Let the Girl Dance” and “I stand with Kaylee Timonet,” in support of Timonet. Since the community supports her, Timonet says that it also helped her overcome this unpleasant incident.
