Selling or buying a home is already a hassle, and if you’re moving to (or from) a place equipped with tons of smart home equipment, the process gets a little more complicated. Not only will you need to erase all data from your old smart home equipment, but you will also need to take control of all smart home devices in your new location.
Fortunately, Ring makes it easy to change Ring Doorbell ownership with a process that only takes a few minutes. However, it does involve a bit of cooperation from both the old and the new owner – here’s a closer look at how it works.

How to remove the old owner of the Ring Doorbell
If you want to change the owner of your Ring Doorbell, there are only a few steps to take. The first thing that needs to happen is that the previous owner needs to uninstall the device from their Ring app. To do this, they will open the Ring app on their smartphone and follow these instructions.
Step 1: Tap the three lines in the upper left corner of the screen, then select Devices.
Step 2: From here, click on the device that needs a new owner.
Step 3: Choose Device settingsthen General settings.
Step 4: Finally select Remove this device.

How to officially change ownership
Once the previous owner has deleted the Ring Doorbell from their Ring App, you’re ready to take control of your smart home gadget. As long as you’re using the latest version of the Ring app, you should be able to easily follow the on-screen instructions during the standard setup process to claim ownership.
If you don’t see this option on your screen, you’ll need to contact the Ring Community Support Center for more information. But with any luck, changing Ring Doorbell ownership shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes.
While you’ll still need to contact the previous owner, you no longer need to contact Ringo’s customer support directly (unless, of course, you run into problems). This makes the switching process a little less cumbersome than before and should save you a few minutes during the stressful moving process.
