Dog saved from euthanasia becomes foster dad to over 150 cats in past 10 years

A post about the touching story of resilience and compassion of a dog who was once on the brink of euthanasia has been shared on social media. The dog named Raylan was rescued by his mum Laura just two days before he was “destined for euthanasia”. After coming to his forever home with his new pet parent, the dog found a new purpose in his life – adopting a litter of kittens. Raylan’s story will probably leave you emotional.

Instagram page We Rate Dogs shared a series of pictures and videos of Raylan with his adopted kittens. The site also posted a detailed caption explaining his story. After Raylan was adopted by Laura, a woman who likes to adopt kittens, he “assumed” that it was also his responsibility to take care of the young. Since then, the dog has been on a mission to make young cats feel loved.

Laura told We Rate Dogs that Raylan never received any training, but “learned how to do everything quickly.” Speaking about Raylan’s interaction with the kittens, she added: “He carries them around, licks them. He treats them like they’re his and please don’t tell him otherwise.”

The first kitten Raylan helped was named Watson and they still play with each other. Laura also explained that Raylan’s relationship with the kittens is no doubt adorable, but it also serves “several important purposes.”

“It gives them the comfort of a consistent parent figure, helps them socialize and expands their adoption resumes to make them suitable for homes that already have dogs. In return, they clearly give him a sense of purpose,” said Laura.
