Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson came on Saturday to help European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen raise funds for the development of a vaccine against the Covid-19 virus.

The European Commission sponsored, in cooperation with the organization based in the United States Global Citizen, this virtual event intended to collect financial contributions. In total, according to EU data, 40 governments helped in the preparations.
6.15 billion collected on Saturday
Ursula von der Leyen opened it by announcing that on Saturday they received 6.15 billion, of which 4.9 billion euros from the European Investment Bank, in partnership with the Commission. Previously, on May 4, during a summit organized to collect funds, the EU, governments and wealthy philanthropists pledged to contribute around ten billion euros. So, it is already close to 16 billion euros in total.

“We would never put an end to this pandemic when it’s over,” said Mrs von der Leyen at the opening of this virtual event. “And that means every person in the world has access to testing, treatment and vaccines regardless of where they live, where they’re from and what they look like,” she continued.
