Who should be cast in Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda movie?

Intense support from critics and audiences for HBO The last of us and incredible success at the box office Movie Super Mario Bros have led fans to believe that we are entering a golden age of video game adaptations. The industry is now turning its head to other highly profitable IPs that it can turn into cinematic franchises, and fortunately for them, there is no shortage of popular Nintendo games that should be turned into movies. And no game is higher on that list than The Legend of Zelda.

One of Nintendo’s most beloved and valuable brands, The Legend of Zelda has been around since the mid-80s. Although the series has undergone several changes and adapted its characters into numerous incarnations, the main plot usually centers around Link, a young and brave warrior, and Princess Zelda, the reincarnation of the goddess Hylia. Together, the pair fight against Ganon, a demon king who wants to possess the Triforce to rule the kingdom of Hyrule.

While a live-action Netflix show was rumored to be in development, nothing came of it. Still, it’s not far-fetched to assume that a studio — Universal, Warner Bros., or even Netflix — will eventually agree to adapt this venerable IP. So who should play the lead roles? More importantly, what game should the project adapt? For simplicity, we will assume that the project will adapt the latest success of the series, Breath of the wilda classic Zelda story featuring everything fans love about the franchise and more.

Who should play Link?

Link is the protagonist of the franchise. Courageous, stoic, selfless and loyal, Link is the ultimate warrior, the embodiment of bravery and the reincarnation of Hylia’s chosen warrior. Link is the archetypal lone hero who goes through a journey of courage and hardship to recover the Master Sword, his signature weapon, which allows him to defeat Ganondorf. Most importantly, Link is silent; the games present it as a blank slate that players can imprint on and fully immerse themselves in the world Zelda.

When rumors appeared about Zelda circulated, many suggested Tom Holland as Link. Holland is a very charismatic actor, but he would be very miscast as Link; Holland’s appeal relies on his charm and bubbly personality, qualities that would be wasted on the pensive and mostly silent Link. Holland is also likely to return for the upcoming one Spider-Man 4, which means he’s already too famous for the role. Furthermore, I believe a Japanese actor should play Link in honor of the franchise’s roots. Express trainAndrew Koji would have been great, but he’s aged out of the role. About what? Titans‘Ryan Potter? He does a great job as Beast Boy, but I’m afraid he’s in the same boat as Holland: he’s too charming for Link.

That brings us to Mackenyu, son of the late Japanese icon Sonny Chiba. Mackenyu has sharp features and classic good looks to excel as Link. Already a star in Japan, Mackenya will lead the upcoming Knights of the Zodiac film and play Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s live-action film adaptation One piece. Finally, at 26, Mackenny is the perfect age to play Link for many years. So who should play Link? Mackeny, of course!

Who should play Zelda?

Princess Zelda leads The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild reviewNintendo

Princess Zelda is the other half of the equation. Although she is the main character in the franchise, Zelda is usually a minor character in the story, acting as a guide and helping Link on his quest. However, it plays a much more active role in Breath of the wilddeveloping a complicated relationship with Link and acting as a guiding force in the story.

Choosing Princess Zelda is significantly easier than Link; there is no shortage of blonde actresses, and many would be amazing in the role. Four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan practically brought Princess Zelda to life, but something tells me she wouldn’t be interested in a major franchise. There’s also Anya Taylor-Joy, but she’s already Furiosa and the voice of Princess Peach; in fact, I’m afraid it’s on the verge of overexposure. a bigis Elle Fanning and RiverdaleLili Reinhart could also work, but I think EuphoriaHunter Schafer is the one. The provocative fashion show proved its versatility, and it is more than it looks. Having a trans actress leading a major franchise would also be a huge step forward in representation.

So who should play Princess Zelda? My vote goes to Hunter Schafer, an actress who deserves a higher level as her co-star Euphoria constellations have.

Who should play Ganon?

Ganondorf is the last part of the Triforce. Ganon is the king of the Gerudo people The Legend of Zeldathe main antagonist, who seeks to gather the three parts of the Triforce to rule the kingdom of Hyrule. Ganon plays a large supporting role in the Breath of the wildwith his shadow looming over the events of the game despite being locked away in Hyrule Castle.

For years I believed that Idris Elba was born to play Ganon. Elba, an acclaimed and respected actor, is no stranger to franchises having played villains in Star Trek and The Fast and the Furious Presented by: Hobbs and Shaw and major supporting roles in the MCU and Sonic the Hedgehog. However, if we were looking for a less obvious choice, my choice would be Dave Bautista. The wrestler-turned-actor has proven his range in projects like Blade Runner 2049 and, more recently, underrated Knock on the cabin. With an imposing figure and a gentle yet creepy quality, Bautista would kill it as Ganon.

So who should play Ganon? Dave Bautista, although Idris Elba is a very close the other one.

Who should play Impa?

Many side characters have come and gone over the years, but Impa remains a constant in the world Zelda. Impa is Zelda’s guardian, usually acting as a wise guide to Link, though some modern incarnations have depicted her as a younger warrior. Impa is a key figure in the Zelda lore, appearing in many of the best games of all time in the Zelda series, incl The Ocarina of Time, A link between worldsand Breath of the wild.

Gilmore Girls veteran Emily Kuroda would be great as Impa. Kuroda’s feisty, determined attitude, combined with her warmth and empathy, would make her an ideal candidate for the role of the legendary Impa. Veteran actress Patti Yasukate, most recently seen in the Netflix hit Beefwould also be a great option, as would Dash & LilyI’m Jodi Long.

So who should play Impa? My choice is Emily Kuroda. Anyone who has seen Gilmore Girls she knows she would knock that role out of the park.

Who should play Urbos?

Urbosa looks pensive in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.Image used with permission of the copyright holder

Urbosa is among them Breath of the wildbreakthrough characters. The desert-dwelling Gerud chief, Urbosa, is one of the champions who aid Link and Zelda in their fight against Calamity Ganon. Urbosa controls the lightning bolts and commands the Divine Beast Vah Naboris, standing out with his stunning stature and charismatic, heroic personality.

Several actresses come to mind when choosing Urbosa. Titans‘ Anna Diop would be ideal, although the character might be too similar to Starfire. What about Chloe Bailey, who recently made a splash with her work on Prime Video Swarm? Spider-Man: Homecomingis Laura Harrier and Star Trek: DiscoverySonequa Martin-Green would also be worthy candidates. Finally, Ella Balinska, whose latest project was the divine Netflix series Resident Evilshe deserves a project worthy of her talent.

So who should Urbosa be? I am undecided between Diop and Balinska. I think both actresses would be amazing in the role, although I might give Balinska the edge.

Who should play Sidon?

Sidon stands proudly looking down at something in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.Image used with permission of the copyright holder

The amphibian prince of Zora, Sidon, is a major supporting character in the Breath of the wild and a huge fan favorite character. He is Sipha’s younger brother and a valuable ally to Link, characterized by his overly optimistic attitude, strong swimming abilities, and somewhat vain personality.

Sidon is, for lack of a better word, hot. He is tall, muscular and confident, which makes him a popular character among Zelda fandom; therefore, he needs an equally hot actor to portray him. However, the actor playing Sidon would either be wearing full makeup or doing a motion capture performance, which means he has to be charming and have a bright smile. Manny Jacinto immediately comes to mind, as well I never didis Darren Barnett. And what of that Bridgerton‘s Luke Thompson or Murder on the Orient Express‘Tom Bateman? Grandchesteris Tom Brittney and Emily in Paris‘ Lucien Laviscount also responded to the request.

So who should play Sidon? I’d go with Manny Jacinto. The boy is handsome, unbearably charming and has been waiting a long time for his chance in the spotlight. Jacinto is ideal for the revival of Sidon.
