Overwatch 2 Kiriko guide: abilities, strategies, counters, and more

Overwatch 2 launched with not only every single original hero returning, many with tweaks and updates to their sets, but also three brand new heroes joining the fun. These new heroes, as well as all the new ones yet to be released, still fall into the familiar three categories of damage, support and tank roles. Despite this, the variety in each character within their roles can be huge — Mercy and Lucio are both support characters, but use very different skills and tactics.

Kiriko is the newest support hero in the Overwatch 2 with a very clear ninja inspiration. If her charming design wasn’t enough to get players interested in trying her out, then her unique set of abilities certainly will. Support heroes can be the trickiest to learn, and Kiriko is the technical side of things in terms of characters, so a quick tutorial on how she works will help you get the most out of this shinobi’s power. Here’s a complete Kiriko guide for Overwatch 2.

Kiriko review

The story of the origin of Kiriko | Overwatch 2

Kiriko, like Genji and Hanzo, is a fast and agile hero. She can climb walls for positioning and can regenerate her own health when not in combat. Her two main weapons are Kunai and Healing Ofhuda.

Your Kunai is a pretty weak offensive option, which makes sense since Kiriko isn’t meant to be your team’s main damage dealer. However, you can get extra critical damage if you hit enemies in the head to make it more worthwhile. In general, though, don’t expect to win one-on-one duels with her since she only has 200 HP.

Healing Ofhuda tracks the talismans you throw at your teammates to heal them. Tracking means you don’t have to be precise. However, they aren’t that fast, meaning you want to take them out as soon as you realize a teammate is hurt or they might die before your talisman can get to them. You can knock out five at a time before you have to restock.

Kiriko abilities

Aside from Kirika’s wall-climbing and healing-over-time passive abilities, here’s what she can do:

Quick Step: This skill instantly teleports Kiriko to an ally’s location. This works on any ally you target, even if there are walls or other obstacles between you and them, making it useful both for getting into support position and as a way to escape a deadly situation yourself.

Suzu Protection: This is another support skill that allows you to cast a spell that makes one ally temporarily invulnerable to damage, plus remove any debuffs they might have. However, unlike Kiriko’s Healing Ofhud, this will not track and functions more like an arc missile or grenade. If it hits a wall or an enemy, bad luck. At the same time, you can also aim straight down and splash yourself to become invincible if needed.

Kitsune Rush: Kiriko’s ultimate is by far the most prominent. She begins by summoning a blue fox spirit that runs forward in the direction you are facing, leaving a ghostly trail. All teammates on this path will have faster movement, attack speed, and reduced cooldowns. This is a great way to break through choke points or break through contested areas.

The best ways to play Kiriko

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Kiriko is at his best when he’s at the back of your team. This allows you to dish out chunks of damage with kunai when you’re safe, but mostly follow your tank and damage classes for healing. You don’t want to be too far away though because you want to be in range of everyone if you need to cast Protection Suzu.

Use your mobility to gain access to high ground and lightly flank the enemy. Don’t overdo it, but flinching to distract enemies is very useful for preparing for a team attack, and you can always fall back on your Quick Step to retreat to the safety of your team if someone tries to chase you.

Kiriko is great when the other team is using heroes like Ana and Junker Queen because they both use debuff abilities that you can cancel with your charm. Charm, along with your ultimate strength, should be a major component in synergizing with your team.

Kiriko is an excellent healer who, in the right hands, can fill your team’s primary healing role on her own. The only characters that don’t really benefit from her presence are the lone wolf types, like Widowmaker and Reaper.

Which characters oppose Kiriko

Each hero has another (or several) opposing them that you need to watch out for and avoid if possible. For Kiriko, this includes heroes like Widowmaker, Sojourn, and Soldier 76, who can attack safely and accurately from long range and have smaller hit-boxes that make it harder to land kunai. Tracer and Genji are also dangerous because they are fast and can rush you down and take you away before you have a chance to retreat or hit yourself with a charm.
