The world-famous author died of cancer at the age of 55.
Spanish writer Carlos Ruiz Zafon, world famous for his novel The Shadow of the Wind, has died at the age of 55, his publisher Planeta announced on Friday. “Writer Carlos Ruiz Zafon died today, June 19, 2020, at the age of 55, at his home in Los Angeles, USA, of cancer,” the group said in a press release.
“One of the best contemporary novelists has left us, but he will remain very much alive among us through his books,” adds the editor, who published Ruiz Zafon’s novels for twenty years, especially his tetralogy Graveyard of Forgotten Books. Published between 2001 and 2016, it includes Shadow of the Wind, Game of Angels, Prisoner of Heaven and Labyrinth of Minds.

In its press release, the publishing house quoted a sentence from Daniel Sempere’s father, the main character of Shadow of the Wind, the author’s best-known book and one of Spain’s best-selling novels of recent decades.

Born in Barcelona in 1964, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, educated in a religious institution and a graduate in communication, initially made a career in advertising before publishing his first novel after almost thirty years.
