Monkey negotiates with woman, takes food to return her phone

Monkeys are mischievous and are often seen around tourist spots stealing things from unsuspecting people. This is not an uncommon habit of primates. But it seems that this monkey from Bali has taken this art a step further and has learned to bargain. A video shared on social media shows how the monkey not only stole the woman’s phone but later asked her for food in exchange for the device.

The video was published on the Instagram page of the travel agency Bali Top Holiday. The title of the post is written in Indonesian, which when translated into English, explains that the monkey is involved in a “transaction”.

The video shows a monkey sitting on top of a wall with a phone in his hand. A woman is also seen standing in front of him. Soon, the woman takes out a fruit from her bag and gives it to the monkey. However, that’s not a deal breaker. Only when I’m about to give another fruit does it return the phone to her.

An individual took to the comments section to share a similar story. Their commentary, translated from Indonesian to English, explains that his son’s phone was also taken from the same place, which he returned with the help of local security guards. However, what surprised him was a video on his phone showing several monkeys. “Take care in Bali. Btw, lovely monkey,” another posted.

A third added: “So good at bartering.” A fourth wrote: “I was there and I was careful. That’s because the guide warned me before.” What do you think of the video? How would you react in such a situation?
