Make your next workout a treat with the best luxury fitness tech

There is no better feeling than that excitement after training. You feel great, look great and know you’ve done something positive for yourself. But getting there is not always easy. While some people need nothing more than a pair of trainers to work out in, some of us need a little more guidance, help or inspiration.

The right equipment can help. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have resorted to building home gyms and equipping them with everything from total gyms to smart fitness mirrors and even smart boxing equipment. The market has responded with high-tech equipment that measures performance, communicates with the user and is built to last. The worst part of the pandemic may be behind us, but the availability of luxury fitness equipment is still high.

Which gadgets are worth splurging on? Here are some of our favorite items you can throw on to take your workout to the next level.

Mirror

Barely there

Avg

  • Stunning looking design

  • A diverse offer of exercises

  • Offers 1-on-1 personal training

  • Simple installation

Against

  • The heart rate monitor turns off

  • You will need to get your own exercise equipment

If you don’t want a steel behemoth hanging around in your guest room when it’s not in use, consider The Mirror, one of the most discreet home exercise devices we’ve ever tested. It looks exactly like its awesome namesake, but comes to life with a screen and speakers that guide you through exercises from weightlifting to dance, yoga and even barre.

Fitbit Charge 5

The best indicators

Avg

  • Modern and comfortable design

  • Solid battery life

  • Full of advanced health metrics

  • Built-in GPS with multiple modes

  • Supports Fitbit Pay

Against

  • Sometimes slow inputs by switching

  • Some basic fitness/wellness tools are missing

  • Some features require Fitbit Premium

A smartwatch is the best way to measure your workout or run and get tons of great stats and metrics. Watches like the Fitbit Charge 5 (or the Pixel watch with a built-in Fitbit) can measure so many different aspects of your health that it’s almost a mistake not to wear one while exercising. Similarly, the Apple Watch has become the go-to choice for Apple users, and while it’s great for providing that seamless Apple experience, it’s not a dedicated fitness device. We found the Fitbit to be more accurate in tracking and for that reason we like the Fitbit or Google Watch experience.

Bose SoundLink Flex

A boom to fill every room

Avg

  • Very portable

  • Excellent sound quality

  • Acoustics that fill the space

A Bluetooth speaker is the perfect way to take your music with you to your workout if you’re not at a public gym or on a hiking trail. Investing in a high-quality version like the Bose Soundlink Flex or Bose Revolve II will mean not only excellent sound quality, but will be able to fill a room even outdoors. Plus, a good Bluetooth speaker can be easily carried around and placed where you need it to provide that 80s montage (Chariots of fireanyone?) while you sweat.

Mac-tata among tablets

Avg

  • Elegant and modern design

  • Bright, vivid, beautiful screen

  • Wild performance of the M2 chip

  • Apple Pencil hover feature

  • iPadOS 16 is super robust

Against

  • Stage Manager needs more work

  • Weak, awkward front camera

  • Immensely expensive

If you’ve been working out on a fitness machine for a long time or want access to video tutorials to perfect your form, using a tablet is a great idea. It can connect to any number of fitness apps or YouTube for guided workouts and trainer-focused help. Or just set up something like the new Apple iPad 10th generation and stream your favorite show or movie (you can send audio to your Bluetooth speaker or headphones).

If you’re the type of person who likes to constantly input information, consider investing in a great set of water and sweat resistant headphones. Gone are the days of bulky headphones and wires that hook into the machine. These days, you can buy a quality set of earbuds like the Pixel Buds Pro or Jabra’s Elite Sport earbuds, which are designed for athletes, meaning they’re sweat-resistant and stay put.
