These ridiculously strong fridge magnets can hold nearly six pounds each

Strong steroids fridge magnets can hold up to six pounds of supermagsImage used with permission of the copyright holder Admit it: Your fridge door is probably covered in crap magnets right now. You know the kind — the ones that fly off the fridge every time you open the door too hard, and are so weak they can barely hold your child’s fantastic macaron art. They’re pretty awful, aren’t they?

Well, luckily, Canadian start-up Trintec Industries has discovered a way to make your magnets stick the way they’re meant to. The company’s latest product, SuperMags, are a completely different kind of fridge magnet. Unlike those cheap basement ones you probably got as a cheap souvenir, these villains can hold up to 16 sheets of plain office paper and weigh exactly 5.7 pounds each. That’s pretty strong for a fridge magnet.

In terms of design, SuperMags are inspired by traditional card pins, but are twice the size. They’re not bad to look at either, so don’t worry about something that strong being a thorn in your side.

supermagesA six-pound holding power might seem excessive, but it basically opens up a world of possibilities at your refrigerator door. Instead of stacking four magnets on one sheet of paper to stick it together, you can simply use one magnet to hang an entire folder full of paper or even a stack of bills you’ve been neglecting. They’re so strong that they could potentially even be used for things like tool organization, since they’re big enough to hang on wrenches, pliers, or kitchen tools.

Don’t worry about it breaking either. SuperMags are made from brass or aluminum, so they’re tough enough to last as long as you need them to. If you go for the brass option, they will even develop a natural patina over time (that awesome tarnished vintage look that some metals have).

Trintec launched a Kickstarter campaign for SuperMags, looking to raise just over $2,000 — but with 28 days remaining, SuperMags has already doubled its required funding goal. I guess heavy duty magnets are really in demand.

If you want to get your hands on some SuperMags of your own, all you have to do is pledge around $14, and you won’t even have to pay for shipping. With the project’s funding looking pretty good, the company expects to begin shipping within 60 days of the Kickstarter campaign ending.
