A woman who received spam from an Uber taxi driver has called X to express her ‘serious concerns’ about the matter. “This incident has not only left a feeling of unease, but has also raised serious security concerns. I strongly believe that Uber should be a platform where customers, especially women, can trust the drivers and the overall experience. This incident has shaken that trust and I am deeply concerned for the safety of female passengers who rely on Uber for transportation,” wrote X user Bhumika.

“I kindly request that you take immediate and decisive action to investigate this matter, identify the driver involved and take appropriate action to ensure that such incidents do not occur again. The safety and protection of Uber passengers should be a top priority and I hope you will take this complaint seriously, she added.

Bhumika wrapped the post with screenshots of her conversation with the driver. The screenshots show that apart from sending messages, the person also shared a picture with Bhumika.

Interaction between Bhumika and Uber on X:

Uber shared a standardized message that read: “Hi Bhumika, sorry for the problem. Can you share the mobile phone number associated with your account with us via direct message? We will follow.” To which a frustrated Bhumika replied, “Why are you not responding to my messages?”

The company shared the response and wrote, “Hi Bhumika, Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. We understand how upsetting this situation is for you right now. Our team is currently investigating this concern and will get back to you with an update soon. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.”

What did Instagram users say about this incident?

“Hi Bhumika, I just came across your post. This is a serious concern. I recommend that you file a police report against this driver. This is for your safety,” user X suggested. “Uber should take action against him,” added another.

“This is terrifying. The drivers know our phone number and address, but we don’t know anything about them. And, we have to depend on Uber. It’s not safe at all,” joined a third. “This is so creepy,” wrote a fourth.
