Pokémon Sword and Shield won’t get new content or updates

WITH Pokémon Scarlet and violet is coming around the corner, the Pokémon Company has announced that the last major games in the series, Pokémon Sword and Shield, it will not be supported with new content after November 1st.

According to Serebii.net, The Pokémon Company is dropping support for online content from previous major titles with the latest update. On November 1st, Wild Area News will receive a final update that comes with previously unavailable Pokémon such as Gigantamax Snorlax. Wild Area events are usually held once a month, but after this update the game will no longer receive updates.

From the same day onwards, the Battle Stadium will no longer update with the Ranked Season, and the results for the Ranked Battle Season will not be displayed on Pokémon Home. There will be no further official online competitions, but you can still organize play in friendly competitions. The results of that competition will also not appear Pokémon home starting December 1st. Fortunately, other network functions will still be active as usual in Pokémon Sword and Shieldsuch as friendly battles and trade.

The move isn’t too surprising given that the new mainline Pokémon games will launch in November and will likely receive live support similar to Sword and Shield. The Pokémon Company has not confirmed whether the results of the Ranked Battle Seasons from Pokémon Scarlet and violet will be displayed on Pokémon homebut they probably will because they will have online support for everything else.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release on November 18th for Nintendo Switch.
