Fortnite season 8 new map locations guide: Lazy Lagoon, Sunny Steps, and more

Fortnite Season 8 is finally here and along with it comes some new changes to the map. If you’re still trying to adjust to the new features of Battle Royale Island, our guide is sure to help you get more familiar. While season 8 didn’t bring the massive overhaul that season seven brought, it did bring some earth-erupting additions that have been teased for a while.

Most of these changes are limited to the northeast quadrant of the map so if you land there, don’t be surprised if it looks different than you remember. We’ll take a look at everything you can expect on the updated Battle Royale Season 8 map.

Fortnite Season 8 Map: Overview

Unlike the more focused theme of season seven, there are several themes that make up the changes and additions in season 8. For starters, the recent earthquakes and rumblings have indeed hinted at the volcano that has now emerged. The pirates have also landed and are looking to stake their claim on the Battle Royale card.

Plus, the announcement for the new map hints that even more is on the way. This season seems to focus on the three factions of the Ice King’s army that were introduced in season seven, along with the new factions of the fire volcano men and pirate crews.

There’s still a lot to unpack regarding the changes to the Battle Royale map. There are several new named and unnamed locations as well as changes to existing locations. There were also some minor adjustments that you might miss, such as the (type of) new vehicle. All of this adds up to create the most diverse and varied map to date.

Fortnite season 8 map: Volcano

The biggest single change to the season eight map is the volcano. For some time now, Epic Games has been hinting at the big change coming with season eight using frequent earthquakes and rumbles on the map. It all culminated in the appearance of a huge volcano that shaped the map, but it wasn’t as detailed as many players expected.

The volcano is located in the northeastern part of the map where most of the changes took place. It is quite large and interesting, no location is named, although it occupies a good part of the map. The volcano replaced the Tomato Temple/Town, which no longer exists. It shaped the areas around it as there is now a large river of lava flowing south of its mouth.

This lava is dangerous. Touching it will damage you one health per second so be sure to avoid it. Of course, there are many volcanic rocks around the volcano because everything near it has changed color to a molten color. If you head towards the top of the volcano, you can see that it’s still open and you can see down, but it has a draft that blows you up, similar to the area around the floating island in season six.

Fortnite season 8 map: Lazy Lagoon

Vulcan isn’t the only big change coming to Battle Royale season eight. As we mentioned, the pirates landed on the map and began their invasion, bringing with them a new location called Lazy Lagoon. Lazy Links no longer exists and has been transformed from a relaxing golf course into a beautiful water sanctuary.

The lagoon has a large lake where you can relax, as well as a river that flows into the large sea that surrounds the island. There is a nice resort building that you can visit next to a huge pirate ship that is anchored in the lagoon. Both the buildings and the pirate ship offer beautiful scenery, as well as plenty of treasure chests and loot. You can find Lazy Lagoon west of the volcano and east of The Block.

Another brand new location is Sunny Steps. It is located east of the new volcano and Risky Reels. While it’s a pretty cool new area to explore, it comes after Wailing Woods is removed. If you’re anything like us, you’ll miss this most underrated place.

Sunny Steps appears to be inspired by the Aztecs and possibly other Mesoamerican cultures. The buildings are mostly temples with a few other smaller buildings scattered around. There are many places to explore in Sunny Steps, and you can find plenty of treasure chests and loot here, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Fortnite season 8 map: The Block

Volcano, Lazy Lagoon, and Sunny Steps take up most of the changes in the northeastern part of the Battle Royale map. The block may not be a new location, but it can now be found in a different location. It is now west of Lazy Lagoon and east of Junk Junction in the northwest part of the map.

For those who don’t know, The Block was introduced last season as part of the seventh season. It was surprisingly announced at The Game Awards 2018 and is constantly adding new stuff and fan creations. Epic Games handpicks various cities, buildings and more, shown here.

As of now, at the start of Season 8, The Block offers a super awesome castle to explore, along with tons of loot and treasure chests to find. The Block occupied a spot formerly reserved for a run-down motel dating back to its earliest days Fortnite Royal battle.

You might be wondering what happened to the area where The Block used to be. Well, that spot has now been replaced by Risky Reels, who occupied that space before being replaced by The Block last season. Players can now revisit this fan-favorite location and hopefully watch some movies there in the future.

Fortnite season 8 map: Other changes and additions

While those are the main changes and additions to the Season 8 map, there’s a lot more to it than that. However, these are minor changes that are not so easy to notice.

There are now seven pirate camps on the Battle Royale map, which are basically large forts with a pirate flag. These camps are an integral part of a special eighth season, the first week of the challenge.

Pirates spread their influence, but not only with their camps. There’s a new vehicle for players to use, and we’re not talking about the recently released drifting board. The planes are now gone and in the vault, but the pirate cannons are in their place. You can grab a traditional pirate cannon and shoot players around the map.

It is an extremely powerful but clumsy cannon. It can blow up a ton of buildings (and players) in one shot, but it will also blow you and the cannon up in the process. The cannon acts like a kind of vehicle since you have to control it and you can push it anywhere. It also has a cruise method and controls that are very similar to a shopping cart.

There are also small geysers sprinkled throughout the Battle Royale map. Water comes out of it and if you run into it, you will be blown away. If you’re looking for a relaxing break, there’s a hot springs area to be found east of the Lazy Lagoon and west of the Risky Reels return.

As always, Tilted Towers is being revamped again so you can find the city with a few fresh changes. Speaking of repairs, the broken house in Salty Springs is now repaired and can be explored. The starting island is also different. After all, this is not a change, but fortunately, the snow season of seven changes in the southwest quadrant still remains.
