35-year-old Gemma Kirk-Bonner spotted a cigarette while feeding her three-year-old son, reports The Mirror. This incident happened when she bought a meal at a McDonald’s branch in Barrow-in-Furness, a town in England. Kirk-Bonner also claimed the branch failed to respond after she reported the incident to them.

“I gave my three-year-old his [McDonald’s meal]without looking. Then I put my one-year-old in his chair and fed him from my hand. I raised fish for him. Then I noticed ashes and a cigarette in the box. It was disgusting. I was absolutely furious. If I gave the box to my three-year-old, he would try to eat it. You wouldn’t know it otherwise,” she told The Mirror.

“It turned me off. It made me consider going to McDonald’s. I usually take my sons on Fridays, but I certainly won’t do it this time. I am in the process of appealing to McDonald’s head office,” she added.

She also took to Facebook and wrote: “Forget the toy, now it comes with a cigarette butt as ash for extra flavor. I called on the phone to complain, but I spoke rudely to her, and then she hung up on me!” The picture shows a cigarette butt in the middle of several pieces of fries at the bottom of the packet.

How did McDonald’s react?

“Food safety is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control and providing the highest standard to our customers at our restaurant in Barrow-in-Furness. We would encourage customers to contact customer service so that we can investigate properly and help them find a solution,” a McDonald’s spokesperson told The Mirror.
