World Cup 2023 Points Table Today: England and Sri Lanka clashed in the 25th match of the World Cup 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
It was a critical game for both teams, but Sri Lanka played hard to beat England, the defending champions.
England won the toss and captain Jos Buttler decided to bat first. The pitch in Bengaluru has been batsmen-friendly in the previous matches, but that was not the case with England’s batsmen.
After a good start, England’s top and middle order quickly crumbled under Sri Lanka’s impressive bowling tactics. Angelo Matthews, who replaced Pathiran in the playing XI, took the crucial wickets of David Malan and Moeen Ali. Ben Stokes tried his best to stay on and put up a good score but to no avail.
In the end, England were reduced to 156 in 33.2 overs, a miserable result considering the talent and skill involved in the team.
Sri Lanka chased down the target easily and won by 8 wickets. With this win, England were effectively kicked out of the tournament, while Sri Lanka moved up to number 5 in the points table.
