Best Tesla Model X alternatives

Tesla’s Model X is a strong competitor in the segment of luxury electric SUVs. Offered in three configurations, you can step into the long-range model that gives you 360 miles of range, or opt for the performance variant with a top speed of 163 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. However, there are other options to consider; if you want an electric crossover or a similarly styled vehicle, these are the best Tesla Model X alternatives you can buy:

Audi e-tron

The first pure electric SUV from Audi, the e-tron offers a level of premium luxury starting at $65,900. The e-tron is a fast vehicle, but it doesn’t meet the high-performance specs of the Tesla Model X; it has a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds. Range is decent at 222 miles per battery charge, but we’d like it to be a bit longer. The real reason to opt for the Audi e-tron is its unrestrained luxury; Audi trades high-performance specs for seats with Valcona/Milano leather upholstery and natural wood inserts. Inside the Audi, the e-tron also packs quite a bit of tech, and we can’t help but fall in love with the vehicle’s virtual cockpit experience and floating heads-up display. Audi also has wireless CarPlay so you can connect your iPhone with ease.

Jaguar I-Pace

It’s a Jaguar and an impressive one at that. The Jaguar I-Pace offers another luxury option for those on a tight budget – starting at $69,850. Configured with a battery that allows for a range of up to 234 miles and acceleration from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, the I-Pace is a great way to enter the world of electric vehicles and zero tailpipe emissions. The Jaguar I-Pace also offers a comfortable ride thanks to the adaptive dynamics system, which monitors the vehicle up to 500 times per second, adjusting the shock absorbers for an excellent driving experience. As you can imagine, the I-Pace also offers a beautiful interior that you can wrap in fine grained leather in 10 directions to your heart’s content.

Mercedes-Benz EQC

Mercedes-Benz’s entry into this segment is called the EQC 400. Designed solely with battery power in mind, it’s one of the most advanced cars the innovative German company has ever released, and it will join Tesla’s growing list of nightmares when sales resume. We drove it in Europe and praised its smooth performance, comfortable ride and energy management features. It is a serious competitor in the electric car segment.

At launch, Mercedes-Benz will offer one variant of the model, called the EQC 400. It is powered by an electric motor mounted over each axle. They draw electricity from an 80-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack to provide 402 horsepower — hence the 400 part on the nameplate — and 564 pound-feet of torque.

Mercedes-Benz will launch the EQC in America during the first half of 2021, so we expect the first examples to start arriving in showrooms in the coming months. Prices start at $67,900 excluding a $995 destination charge and available incentives, such as a one-time $7,500 tax credit that some buyers can claim from the federal government.
