A guide to the Dohn Mheg Dungeon in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers

Dohn Mheg is the second dungeon you will encounter Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers adventure. If you happened to watch the live stream preview leading up to the launch, you’ve probably seen a lot of it already. This underwater paradise is not as wonderfully magical as it seems at first glance. Being the domain of another faerie nation located in Il Mheg, it’s borderline horror disguised as whimsy.

As with our other Shadowbringers dungeon guides, we focus entirely on boss strategies and tactics. Trash mods, while quite powerful, aren’t too important here. Just fight your way through them and beat up some bosses.

This frog friend gives a small gift in her name. Things start out pretty much the same with the same hammer bonk toy we saw crippling tanks in the Antitower in Heavensward. However, lower his health and things will soon go awry.

Aenc Thon’s main attack comes after his first Hydrofall and Laughing Leap, in which he jumps to the middle of the arena to cast Landsblood. The ripples caused by this movement create puddles of water that erupt after two strikes from Aenc Thon’s staff. These eruptions are bigger than they appear and create more puddles with each one, so stay out of the way and reposition after each one to avoid a combo. Then rinse and repeat – pun intended.

Griaule

Pokemon fans might recognize this bushy beast. Griaule does a little trickery with Fodder, a spell that creates things that will attach to Griaule and cause him to grow in size and power. They can be intercepted by disconnecting between bosses, but you won’t be able to intercept them all. During this, Griaule will cast Tiimbeeer to deal AOE damage to the team. If you want to try some sort of challenge mode, let Griaule do the hard work. “Healers adapt”, as they say.

In between these stern stages, Griaule will try to split players with his ultimate Swinge attack by rooting you all with Coiling Ivy. You can get out of them with attacks, but one white mage spell or similar will usually clear the field.

After passing through the magical castle floating on the lake, Aenc Thon will return for round two. Now a skinny frog that we rightfully expect to land on NSFW art sites, he’s replaced the candy bar with a violin bow. The virtuoso Capriccio deals AOE damage, the Imp Choir requires looking away, and the Toad Choir is a wide ganal attack that you’ll want to avoid unless you want to join his frog ranks.

After jumping back to the back of the area, Aenc Thon performs Funambulist’s Fantasia, creating a huge gap in the middle. Carefully follow the thin path back to the boss, step into his shield and shoot him before he has a chance to cast Finale.

Succeed and Aenc Thon will take on a new form. One veterans will already see. Avoid this new enemy’s telegraphed punches, non-telegraphed tentacle punches, and some vomit, and he’ll turn into an Aenc Thon to finish off.
