Get your HTC Vive in just a few short days, with HTC’s new shipping schedule

htc vive now shipping 72 hours box set unbox 2Jessica Lee Star/Digital Trends While the launch of Oculus VR and HTC/Valve’s VR headset was exciting, it was marred by a number of issues – most notably shipping delays. Until recently, getting any headset meant waiting weeks or even months. But not anymore. HTC has announced that purchasing the Vive directly from its store will ship within 72 hours.

While there’s certainly an argument to be made for more Oculus Rifts being pre-ordered than HTC Vives (at least initially), it seems that now HTC’s manufacturing experience is coming to the fore.

This two-to-three day shipping period that HTC states is available in 24 countries worldwide, making it easy to get a consumer-grade VR headset. To encourage its adoption, HTC has also expanded demo locations around the world, offering them in Microsoft Stores, Gamestops and Micro Centers.

Those locations will also start their own dedicated inventory soon, and pre-orders from those locations will begin shipping this week.

“Since pre-orders began in late February and shipping in early April, we’ve seen incredible interest in the Vive,” said Dan O’Brien, vice president of VR at HTC, who we previously spoke to about the status of Oculus exclusives.

“Collaborating with our retail partners has only added to that momentum as more people can experience the only truly immersive virtual reality offering on the market today.”

Don’t expect this increased shipping to do much for the price, which is still $800 + US shipping. However, it does come with a headset, Lighthouse tracking stations, and a pair of motion controllers that allow for gesture interaction and in-room VR.

That was enough to make it the best VR hardware right now. While it’s still a technology for early adopters and those with enough space to really appreciate it, there are now over 200 experiences and games to play with, so there’s plenty of content to try.

Do you own a Vive? If so, what is your favorite experience so far?
