They restricted India to 229/9 in 50 overs. Despite Rohit Sharma’s strong start, India’s innings was marked by frequent loss of wickets, notably including Virat Kohli’s rare World Cup duck. Skipper Rohit Sharma played well and cooperated with various teammates but unfortunately fell just 13 runs short of the century, departing on 87. Surya Kumar Yadav and KL Rahul hit a couple of runs to give England a good score to chase.

On the bowling front, Mohammed Shami shone with four wickets, sending Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid back to the pavilion. Jasprit Bumrah made key breakthroughs by dismissing Dawid Malan, Joe Root and Mark Wood, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed the wicket of Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone. Ravindra Jadeja took the wicket of Chris Woakes.

With today’s victory, India moved from the second position to the first place in the points table, while England, which was at the bottom, continued in the same place with only one victory in the six matches so far. On 14 October, the Men in Blue faced Pakistan, securing a seven-wicket victory. The winning streak continued as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets. India then took on New Zealand and secured a four-wicket win. This victory was significant as the Men in Blue defeated the Black Caps in the World Cup after two decades.

Team India will now take on Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 2.
