You know the candid photos taken at the top of the slide? The pictures are almost always funny combinations of screams and smiles. Fanpics aims to do the same for your sports fan moments of triumph (or defeat). It’s a free app that instantly captures your reactions to a game stoppage at the stadium.
Sports event cameras are usually focused on the court or field. There are some awkward exceptions, such as the jumbotron and the kiss-cam. Fanpics turns that notion on its head by using a series of cameras throughout the space. Once you download the app for iOS or Android, select your stadium and your seat numbers and pictures of the big moments will appear. Cut and edit them in the app and share them directly on Facebook.
You might think, why bother with this when I could just take pictures with my phone? Since Fanpics takes care of it for you, it gets everyone (including the person usually stuck as the photographer) in a high-resolution photo without the need for a selfie stick and without interrupting the fun. You can even go back and see past games. Photos are always available for download.
Fanpics gets photos of everyone during the big shows, but doesn’t post any of them. Some might think this is a bit creepy, but legally, the simple act of being in a public space is tantamount to consenting to being photographed. That’s why broadcasters can broadcast people in the crowd during matches on TV. Read the fine print on your tickets carefully.
However, Fanpic’s terms and conditions state that you must create a Facebook or email account, and you can only see your own photos. If people violate the rules, the company reserves the right to initiate the user and delete the photos.
Fanpics is available in Los Angeles at the Staples Center for Kings games; StubHub Center for Galaxy MLS games, and at Viejas Arena in San Diego for Aztecs NCAA games. The company plans to work with seven more teams this year and 50 by the end of next year. If you’re into any of those games, Fanpics is a great way to get great shots that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to. It will be great when Fanpics hits more stadiums.
