Aventador ‘Lambo limo’ is an unholy supercar abomination

Lamborghini Aventador sedanThe Lamborghini Aventador is one of the fastest and most exciting new cars, but it doesn’t have enough legroom. Solution? Turn one into a limo, obviously.

The British company Cars for Stars published renderings of just such a machine. The plan is to essentially add passenger space along with scissor-shaped rear doors where there used to be… nothing.

The engine, which is normally located directly behind the driver, is now all the way in the back. Cars for the stars apparently also found room for a bar, a surround sound system and several plasma TVs in the back.

Other than that, the sedan is a standard Aventador. The front and rear fascias are the same, and behind the (travel) rear seats is the same 6.5-liter V12, which puts out 691 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque.

This creates a small technical problem. With the engine not far from the driver, it’s hard to imagine the throttle or transmission being very responsive, if they can be made to work at all.

However, there’s an even bigger problem: How do you take apart a Lamborghini and put it back together without the whole thing falling apart? Once the car is cut in half, those two parts are very weak, especially if the car doesn’t have a separate frame. That’s why body-on-frame vehicles like Lincoln Town Cars and Cadillac Escalades are such popular sedan options.

To make matters more complicated, the chassis of the Aventador is actually a carbon fiber tub. Cutting that and expanding it would be an expensive job.

In addition to the technical challenges, there are also moral issues. Who would butcher a perfectly good $381,700, 217 mph Lamborghini? Who would be content to be a passenger in one, drinking champagne instead of trying to drive 217 mph?

Cars for the stars have no answer. Instead, the company is looking for an individual or organization to sponsor the construction of a Lambo sedan. Anyone willing to pay will be able to name the sedan and get a full year of free advertising on the car.
