But if you look hard enough and close enough, you might be able to spot an owl hidden among the bark of a tree.
His feathers blend in perfectly with the rest of his trunk, but even the sharpest eye will eventually be able to spot his head and facial features.
The image was taken by Florida eagle photographer Larry Lynch, after he spotted the bird hiding in a tree near his home.
He said: “I felt very excited and relieved that the picture turned out so well.
“Setting up the lighting for this photo shoot was complicated.
“We were shooting in the dark, so we needed a main light source to act as the sun and a fill light to open up or brighten the harsh shadows created by the main flash.
“This is the same technique sometimes used in studio portrait photography.
“I’ve learned a lot about these beautiful birds over the last few years so I think there’s a very good chance I’ll be able to use the knowledge I’ve gained to locate and photograph another nest in the future.”
The type of owl hiding in the picture is the Eastern Barn Owl, which is notoriously small, making it even harder to spot.
And as the photo proves, this bird effectively uses its camouflage among the bark of deciduous trees to avoid detection.
However, if you focus your attention towards the center of the image, you may be able to spot a pair of eyes looking back at you.
Along with a pair of ears and a beak, the owl’s face can be quickly recognized.
However, only the head is shown.
The owl seems to have found a hole to sit in, but decided to leave its head sticking out.
If you focus your attention on this part of the tree, you should be able to spot it.
