To improve the air quality in New Delhi, there are several measures that need to be taken according to a 2016 report titled “Comprehensive Study of Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gases (GHG) in Delhi”. This report was published by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Covering the raw materials and using wind screens to keep the raw materials from blowing away can make a big difference as it is expected to improve air quality by 50%, according to the report.
- Encouraging the use of BS-VI vehicles
On average, vehicles can contribute up to 25% of PM 2.5 levels. Using a DPF can reduce emissions from diesel vehicles. Using more hybrid, electric, BS-VI vehicles can also help.
- Vapor recovery systems in gas stations
There are volatile organic compounds in gasoline that are released into the air when the gasoline is unloaded into the tanks. Such gasoline vapors lead to the formation of smog. Vapor recovery systems help collect VOCs during the unloading process.
In summer, fly ash contributes to pollution. Placing windbreakers and spraying water are some of the techniques that can be useful.
- Limiting the use of coal in restaurants and hotels
Hotels and restaurants should refrain from using coal in restaurants and hotels. According to a report, there are around 9,000 restaurants and hotels in Delhi that use coal. This heavy use of coal leads to huge PM emissions. Therefore, the use of coal should be limited in hotels.
- Cessation of incineration of solid municipal waste
WHO exists in the everyday objects we use and dispose of. The burning of such waste results in polluting emissions.
- Use of a telescopic chute and a weather vane during concrete mixing
Batching of concrete is the process of mixing materials for the purpose of concrete production. The process leads to the emission of fly ash. To prevent this, the use of telescopic parachutes and windbreakers is advised.
- De-SOxing systems in power plants
Delhi’s huge refineries and power plants emit pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide. In order to limit these emissions, refineries must install NOx removal systems and SOx removal systems.
- Restriction of biomass burning
Burning crop residues is a leading factor in pollution, so this practice should be checked and limited.
