The best skills to unlock in Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an interesting and unique mix of many different elements. On the one hand, it’s an open-world first-person game set in a haunted version of the real Tokyo. On the other hand, it is an action RPG where you improve your fighting skills by leveling up and acquiring new skills and abilities. These RPG elements are much more widespread than first appeared when the game was first shown, focusing more on flashy first-person spellcasting and the horrific enemies you’ll encounter on the streets of Tokyo. However, they are a major factor in how your adventure to solve this mystery will unfold.

Skill points will be rewarded for earning XP and leveling up synergy, which is how strong Akit’s bond is with KK, the spirit that gives him his mystical powers. Like any traditional RPG, XP will come when you defeat enemies and complete main and side quests. At first glance, the menu of skills might seem overwhelming, especially when you don’t know what will be useful to you in the long run or what you might even want to use. Instead of wasting points on something you’ll never use, here’s a quick rundown of all the best skills you should unlock Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Ground Core Grab and Melee Core Grab

We’re lumping these two together because they’re very similar, but we think the Ground Core Grab is more important to at least be first. With this skill, you can perform a quick cleanup of a downed enemy. Taking down enemies is the main focus of combat, so being able to take them down quickly by stunning and hitting enemies is key.

Melee Core Grab, on the other hand, is another faster version of your usual sweep move, though it does require you to get up close and personal with your target. Their core still needs to be discovered, of course, but it’s handy for enemies that are harder to take down.

Core Grab — HP Restoration

Now that you’re grabbing cores faster and more often, make your hard work pay off by increasing the amount of HP you get back for each grab. Health is a constant concern Ghostwire: Tokyo, and while you should always have food on hand, it’s always better to save it for difficult situations. This won’t completely remove the need for it, but it should at least negate any chip damage you take in minor encounters.

Central exposure — duration

Our last core-focused skill to grab (get it?) is a direct increase in how long an enemy’s core will remain exposed and open to be grabbed. This can help take away some of the stress you feel when you discover a distant enemy’s core and feel like you have to risk everything to rush in and capture it. Now you can be much safer and deal with other threats before going to the core.

Perfect block — Aether generation

Ghostwire: Tokyo wants you to learn perfect block time. This is an incredibly powerful move if you can pull it off, allowing you to counter virtually any attack sent your way, ranged or otherwise. Ether is your kind of ammunition for your Ethereal Weaving attacks, and you don’t want to run out. This skill gives you back some free Ether every time you perform a perfect block. Again, considering how often you should be using this skill, it can basically become your primary source of Ether.

Wind attack — multiple shots

We chose the wind style for this ability because it will be your most used weapon Ghostwire: Tokyo, but if you really prefer water or fire, feel free to get an equivalent skill for those elements. As for wind, buffing this otherwise underpowered spell makes it much better for a reliable attack. Each time you upgrade this skill, you get more hits added to your boosted attacks, up to a maximum of four. It’s essentially quadrupling your damage if you can hit.

Charge Attack — speed increase

Whichever element you upgrade, a charge attack is always a better option when you can pull it off. Speeding up the time it takes for that charge allows you to use these stronger attacks, regardless of the type of spell you’re using, much faster and more often. We recommend that you upgrade this to as many as possible.

Prayer beads — extra set

Finally, we have Prayer Beads. These are items you can equip that give you some sort of boost, and while they’re all useful, you can only carry one at a time at the start. However, this skill will allow you to carry up to three, stacking all the effects and really increasing your power. These beads can be worth more on their own than leveling up a particular skill on their own, so throw your points in here if you have spare beads burning a hole in your pocket.
