There is no doubt that Dyson has done more for the modern vacuum industry than any other manufacturer. It has single-handedly made vacuum cleaners stronger, more durable and — if we’re being honest — better looking, and I say that as someone who has had the opportunity to review dozens of vacuum cleaners over the years and several Dyson models.

The Dyson Absolute+ offers almost unparalleled cleaning.Dyson

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has a 150% larger bin, 25% larger cleaning head and replaceable batteries to support longer cleaning sessions with up to 120 minutes of operation.

Dyson’s Outsize Absolute+ is a new cordless stick vacuum designed to bridge the gap between the lightweight, hyper-portable cordless devices it’s already known for (like the V10 and V15) and larger, more powerful upright vacuums. In this case, the Dyson Outsize Absolute+ is specifically made for larger North American homes with more carpeting, so it’s built with a bigger bucket, bigger cleaning head, stronger suction and an extra battery, plus some new tech tools like a laser. I had the opportunity to test the Dyson V11 Outsize Absolute+ in real life in my home for a few weeks. Here’s how it was.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has a 150% larger bin, 25% larger cleaning head and replaceable batteries to support longer cleaning sessions with up to 120 minutes of run time, compared to the V10 and V15 models.

You get a lot in the package; there’s the vacuum’s main handle with an integrated dustbin and filter, plus a small screen is also built into the back to display battery life and different cleaning modes.

What do you get with the Dyson Outsize Absolute+?

There are three main cleaning heads and several accessories.

There are so many plugins that it was difficult for me to use them all.

High Torque XL cleaning head

You could call this the main cleaning head and it’s the biggest brush head option in the pack. It uses what Dyson calls a Dynamic Load Sensor to automatically adjust power for different floor types, meaning you can deep clean between carpet and hard floors without having to change accessories.

Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head

With its adorable space-age name, this tool must be something special, right? It is. The fluffy brush is primarily designed for hard floors because these fluffy rollers are made to catch and attract, rather than disperse, fine dust particles thanks to the antistatic fibers. The laser generated when turned on illuminates your floors horizontally, deflecting particles so you can see them better.

Hair twisting tool

The anti-tangle cone brush of the hair curler picks up long hair, lint and pet hair, but more than that, it is designed to prevent hair and lint from getting wrapped around the roller. This happens with almost every other vacuum cleaner. With its conical shape, the hair should eventually go off the brush and into the bin.

There are so many plugins that it was difficult for me to use them all. When it comes to other accessories and accessories, there’s a brush combo, crevice tool and dusting brush, as well as an extra battery, cable and some mounting hardware and clips. All parts (including the filter) are washable.

Battery life and charging

One of the advantages of this vacuum cleaner is that the battery lasts 120 minutes. By comparison, the Dyson V15 or V11 get 60 minutes. Is it because Dyson’s battery technology has improved? In a word: No.

The Outsize Absolute+ comes with a second battery. This is what doubles the listed runtime. You’ll need to keep your second battery charged and ready to actually get those 120 minutes; otherwise it is about 60 minutes per battery.

Fully charging one of the batteries will take a long 4.5 hours.

Cleaning with the Dyson Outsize Absolute+

I thought adding lasers to your vacuum was as relevant as adding lasers to sharks. Color me wrong

This vacuum cleaner is extremely easy to use and although it is significantly heavier than the Dyson V15, it is still easy to carry around. Cleaning tools and heads slide in and out easily without pulling or jamming.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute + cleaned all surfaces of my home very well. Removes dirt from carpets (like dried dog paw prints) and handles pet hair well; it’s truly amazing to see what ends up in the trash can. Easily inhales dog hair, crumbs, debris and dust on wooden floors.

When it comes to the two new specialized cleaning heads, I have to say that I was impressed with the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning head. To be honest, I thought adding lasers to your vacuum was about as relevant as adding lasers to sharks. Color me wrong.

The laser does an amazing job of illuminating seemingly invisible dirt, dust and particles. The first time I used it, I had already vacuumed the previous day and thought there would be nothing noticeable. Boy, was I wrong.

A green laser cuts the surface of the floor at an angle just right to make dirt, particles and dust bunnies light up like tiny Christmas trees. It made it possible to easily see dirt that is difficult to see, both in low and bright lighting conditions.

The Hair Screw tool worked remarkably well. After attacking the dog bed, some upholstery, and then even trying it on the carpet, the cone brush has absolutely no hair wrapped around it; no detangling required.

I guess I should save some ink for the main cleaning head. To say that it works great and cleans a large area quickly seems like an afterthought after writing about its siblings.

Emptying the bin is easy and mess-free

One of the nice features of the Outsize Absolute+ carried over from other models is the bin emptying feature. After removing the tool, just push the lever on the side to open the bottom of the bin and it will drop straight into the trash. You don’t have to touch any dirt or get your hands dirty.

Our opinion

All in all, the Dyson Outsize Absolute+ is the best large format stick vacuum on the market today. It cleans great and I can’t fault it. From carpet to hard floors, it’s got you covered. It is definitely bigger and covers more space than other, smaller Dyson models. I will say that it is heavy and especially less maneuverable when trying to use it handheld (like with a mini motorized curler), but I guess that’s the price to pay for power and a bigger bin. The new laser sight and anti-tamper head are ridiculously versatile additions that work incredibly well.

Is there a better alternative?

Dyson is pretty much the best when it comes to vacuum cleaners of all kinds, so is there a better option? Probably not. But if you want to save money on a similar vacuum, other Dyson models like the Dyson V10 have similar features and technology at a lower price. I also recently tried the Samsung Jet 90 stick vacuum and while it’s pretty good, it doesn’t have the same power, size advantage, in-line construction or fucking lasersas Outsize Absolute+.

How long will it last?

I bought one of Dyson’s first corded uprights about 18 years ago and it’s still going strong. Similarly, my Dyson V11 Animal model is over three years old and I have never had a single problem with it. I have every reason to expect that the build quality of the Outsize Absolute will be top notch.

Should I buy it?

Absolutely! If you need a new vacuum cleaner without trailing cables, but the power of uprights and amazing new and useful cleaning heads, then this stick vacuum offers the ability to clean your entire home. With powerful suction made for carpets, this vacuum can also pick up dust on hard floors.

All in all, this is a great vacuum for my home, which has a fully carpeted basement and all hard floors upstairs, and I think I can finally wish my older Dyson corded upright vacuum a happy retirement with this one.
