The Outer Worlds 2: release date speculation, trailer, and more

Not to be confused with Outdoor wildernessan indie title that launched the same year as i Outer worlds, Outer worlds 2 is the upcoming sequel to Obsidian Entertainment’s dystopian sci-fi RPG, which Xbox announced during E3 2021. The original game was often called Turn out game, but in space, which makes sense since Obsidian is responsible for what many consider to be one of the best, Fallout: New Vegas. It was a well-received game, though not without some flaws, which left many wondering if this new universe would ever return. Many (including us) were surprised to see news about this game, and while there isn’t much yet, we can make a few educated guesses about the details we’ll get later. For now, here’s everything we know and suspect Outer worlds 2.

Release date

The original reveal not only didn’t have a release date, but was itself a parody of the teaser trailer with little or no information. All we can do for now is speculate about when we think Outer worlds 2 it will actually be ready. The Outer worlds it came out towards the end of 2019, but the last piece of DLC for the game didn’t arrive until the end of 2021. The best scenario would be for a smaller team to work on the DLC while another small team has to work on pre-production for a full-fledged sequel, but it’s also possibly there was a gap in time before it actually got the green light.

Even at best, based on how little there is to see in the game and how much detail and work Obsidian likes to put into their games, we think it will be on at least Before 2023 Outer worlds 2 It’s over. Since it wasn’t present during Xbox’s Gamescom 2022 showcase, which promised that all the titles on display would launch within the next 12 months, it’s looking increasingly likely that this game won’t arrive until 2024.

Unlike the somewhat uncertain messages that circulated after Microsoft bought Bethesda, we immediately know that Outer worlds 2 it will be exclusive to the Xbox console and will come to Game Pass on the same day it launches. It’s not specifically stated, but based on the trend Xbox is following with its exclusives, it will also be coming to PC. For fans of the first game who played on PlayStation or Switch, it seems you have a few years to invest in Xbox or PC.

Trailer

The reveal trailer, which is more of a teaser than anything else, is self-aware comedy at its best. The narrator in the trailer actually breaks the fourth wall at the moment, mocking the way traditional teasers and reveals are filmed. They show a cool monster and immediately note that it won’t be in the final game, then mock how slow motion action shots are used to make things seem cooler than they are to increase pre-orders and how it all has to end with music cues placed over wide shots environment until we reach the silhouette of the protagonist.

Obsidian, via a tongue-in-cheek narrator, is open about the fact that they don’t have character models, gameplay, or anything else in the game completed beyond the title. By itself, that teaser gives us very little to do other than the fact that Outer worlds 2 is under construction, and will also be installed in the space. Fortunately, a little more information about the game has surfaced.

Thanks to the official teaser tweet from The Outer Worlds account, the team added a few short lines: “A new star system. New team. The same outer worlds.” We can assume a few things from this. First, we’ll be leaving the Halcyon system, or at least we’ll be able to go to a new star system alongside it. Second, there will be a whole new cast of companions, and quite possibly a new protagonist. Finally, this the game won’t be a huge departure from what we all loved about the original game.

The moon man remains the logo for Outer worlds 2, but the mascot for the Spacer’s Choice corporation is in the game, indicating that there will be at least some ties to the first game. Given one of the possible endings for Outer worlds including the fate of Halcyon Holdings which owns Spacer’s Choice, it will be interesting to see how the sequel builds on the player action of the first game. Or you could also ignore them completely.

The phrase “New Team” implies that none of the old cast will return in the sequel, at least as party members, but perhaps some will appear as NPCs. Many people grew quite attached to the team in the first game and would love to see them return in some form for this game.

If you enjoyed the writing and tone of the first game, Outer worlds 2 looks like a very safe bet for more of the same in that regard.

It is an advance announcement for which there is no gameplay ready to be shown Outer worlds 2. So while it could technically be a complete twist on the genre, it’s much more likely to be another Fallout-esque game with more planets to explore, companions to meet, quests to take, dialogue options to make, and skills to master. which needs to be raised to a level. Really, if we’re being honest, all we need for this game to be is a more polished, maybe slightly bigger version of the first game and we’d be happy. Give us more choice of consequences, missions that react to how we choose to complete them, and generally deeper mechanics to feel like we have freedom of choice in the world or worlds.

The gunplay in the first game was serviceable, but nothing too exciting or satisfying. It was Fallout-esque combat in all but name, with all the nonsense you’d expect from that kind of system. If they can improve that system, and the AI, to be up to par with their writing, humor, and quest design, Outer worlds 2 could be a big hit.

One thing we hope will return is the way skills worked in the first game, where you initially invested in broad skills before they broke down into more specific skills. For example, you’d start out putting points into only chest combat, but once you reach rank 50, you start putting points into specialized skills like one-handed versus two-handed melee. This allows players to get a feel for what each skill does before they’re asked to commit to a super-specialized playstyle right away.

Again, we probably have at least a year off Outer worlds 2 launch, so there are no pre-order details available other than the promise that it will come to Game Pass. Like all of Microsoft’s first-party studios, which include Obsidian, Outer worlds 2 will launch day and date on Game Pass, meaning if you’re a subscriber, you can download the game as soon as it comes out at no extra cost.

Whenever pre-order opportunities are revealed, we’ll be sure to update this section to let you know all the details.
