The 10 most powerful characters in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, ranked

Power is subjective. Some may argue that power is best tested by physical prowess, while others believe it lies in the mind. I would say power is a mixture of strength, intelligence, resourcefulness and dumb luck.

With that criteria in mind, I’ve ranked the 10 most powerful characters in the latest MCU movie, Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Will everyone’s favorite former Baskin Robbins employee turned Avenger come out on top? Or does Kang really defeat everyone and claim the title of most powerful character? Well, if I tell you now, you probably won’t read the whole thing, so be patient, have a snack, and read on.

Note: This article contains MAJOR plot spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

10. Lord Krylar

Well, someone had to be at the bottom of this list, and it might as well be Lord Krylar. Bill Murray’s former rebel turned sleazy arms dealer was never meant to be powerful anyway. He’s there to drop hints about Janet’s past and crack a few jokes about strange human behavior.

It’s hard to think of him as a formidable foe when he ends up getting destroyed by the still-living snack he’s about to eat, which grows large thanks to some Pym particles and starts devouring him. It’s a fun ending to a fun character that absolutely no one will miss.

9. Quaz

William Jackson Harper is always a welcome addition to anything he does. Good place the actor makes his MCU debut as Quaz, a telepath who only existed in the Quantum Realm. He is interested in his new “alien” human friends and often scans Scott’s mind to see if he is telling the truth.

Additionally, Quaz must not overstate his powers. It’s understandable, like quantum mania is a busy movie with a lot of moving parts and roles, and he is not essential to the plot. Any comic book fan knows that a telepath can be super-powered (hello, Phoenix!), so while he doesn’t feature too high on this list, Quaz has the potential to be more powerful if viewers see him again. And let’s hope he comes back in a movie that’s better than this one.

8. Jentorra

Jentorra looks, acts and sounds like she stepped out of Babylon 5 episode, and that’s not a compliment. She gives off a B-grade Xena vibe and doesn’t really show any memorable personality traits. (Comic fans, I know she’s a minor character in the Hulk comics, but she still seems like a SyFy channel reject.)

Still, I’m talking about power here, and she proves it in the final act quantum mania that she is a skilled fighter who can defeat most enemies. She also seems to be super strong and perpetually angry, so Jentorra rightfully deserves her spot on this list.

7. MODOK

Yes, it looks funny, but there’s a reason it’s called a Mechanized Organism designed only to kill. MODOK may have a giant head and baby legs, but he also has a variety of weapons like body-slicing lasers, saws, and projectile bombs to make him a worthy sidekick to Kang.

Yet despite his fearsome weaponry, MODOK has still not been brought down by Scott Lang, but by his inexperienced teenage daughter Cassie. It’s hard to argue that this longtime Marvel villain is superpowered if any amateur (armed with Pym particles) can take him down.

6. Wasp (Hope Van Dyne)

Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp is a simple, unassuming hero who doesn’t get the credit or screen time he deserves. While she is mostly on the sidelines in quantum maniaher few moments in the spotlight allow her to really shine as both a character and a hero.

She saves Scott at a critical moment when he can’t reach the giant reactor to Kang’s ship, and saves her lover’s life again at the end of the film when Kang nearly kills Ant-Man after they’ve all returned to Earth. Power has many meanings, and for Hope Van Dyne, her power lies in her reliability and ability to step in and save the day when needed.

5. Stas (Cassie Lang)

Look, Cassie is a teenager and hardly a hero, so I can forgive her inappropriate moments in the quantum maniaact one and two as she tries to quickly learn how to shrink and fight like an ant. I tried and it’s not easy.

So why is Cassie so high on this list? Because she learns quickly and defeats the deadly MODOK on her own. Not only that, but she inadvertently manages to turn the villain into a good guy (albeit briefly) by bluntly telling him to “don’t be a dick.” Cassie proves that her powerful skills are not only in the form of her intelligence or super strength, but also in her ability to be persuasive.

4. Ant-Man (Scott Lang)

Naturally, the main character of the film is high on this list. Ultimately, he shows his complete mastery of shrinking and growing, and demonstrates a determination rarely seen to strike Kang in numerous fight scenes and save his daughter from death. Scott is no longer the helpless rookie in the previous Ant-Man movie or even Game over; he is a true hero who can hold his own.

Well, somewhat. Hope, Hank and even his daughter have to rescue Scott time and time again from certain death situations. Some might call it teamwork, but it’s really more of a weakness that Scott has yet to overcome in future MCU films.

3. Janet Van Dyne

Janet’s high spot on this list might be controversial for two main reasons. First, she doesn’t display any real powers. Unlike her husband and daughter, she does not shrink or fly into the air to fight the strange enemies of the Quantum Realm. Second, she doesn’t really do anything except expose and Kang imprisons her.

However, Janet proves that she is one of the most powerful characters of the film in the first 10 minutes of the film itself. Why? Well, she single-handedly prevents Kang from escaping the Quantum Realm by using Pym particles to augment Kang’s ship’s reactor, stranding him and saving countless lives and worlds. In the process, Janet sacrifices her chance to return home and resume her role as mother to Hope. In that one act, Janet shows impressive power and deserves to be at the top of the list.

2. Kang the Conqueror

Many readers may look at Kang’s place on this list and grumble, “Well, good.” First, it’s rude. He’s obviously near the top of this list, because .. .well, he’s fucking Kang! He can shoot his paralyzing blue lasers from his hands, float through the air, and move objects with his mind. Oh, and he can travel through time almost effortlessly, knows the end of all existence, and has conquered numerous civilizations.

So why isn’t he at the top? Well, it’s pretty simple: Kang doesn’t win in this movie. And while superhero movies, by necessity, require the good guys to win in the end, it is time Kang is taken down making him only the second most powerful character in the film. He was trapped in the Quantum Realm pretty easily by Janet, and was taken down by Hank and his million or so evolved ants. Yes, Kang was defeated by a bunch of ants. All powerful? I do not think so.

1. Ant-Man (Hank Pym)

An unexpected choice for the most powerful character in this or any other film, Hank Pym earned the spot by literally saving the day. IN quantum maniaHis overcrowded climax, he is the one who takes down Kang by gathering an endless horde of highly intelligent, technologically advanced ants to defeat the invader.

It’s fitting that in the third Ant-Man movie, the most powerful character is the OG Ant-Man. Hank trusted the power of his insect friends and had the resourcefulness to use them against a seemingly unstoppable opponent. This makes Hank the most powerful character Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaand anyone who wants to fight that claim can face a brigade of ants I borrowed from Hank.
