In the game “God of War,” the Norse gods, known for toppling the Greek pantheon and defeating mighty kings of Olympus, come face to face with the protagonist, Kratos. However, Kratos did not succeed in killing all the gods. In fact, nearly 10 Olympians managed to survive the destruction.
Kratos, the third God of War, is not particularly interested in killing other gods as long as they do not interfere with him. Kratos harbors a great deal of suppressed hatred towards his father Zeus, so any death or destruction he causes on his way to Zeus is considered acceptable collateral damage. Consequently, many gods were spared from Kratos’ wrath.

The three principal Olympians ultimately prevailed in the horrific conflict, mostly because they were sober and refrained from confronting the god-slayer. In The Wrath of Kratos from God of War 3, David Jaffe opted to side with Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, rather than against her. Kratos was not encountered by the archer twins Apollo and Artemis during the conflict on Mount Olympus.

All in all, there are a total of 11 gods smart enough to survive in the original God of War game, adding an extra layer of optimism to the game’s bittersweet ending as well as the story’s heartbreaking violence. Hope itself is a powerful enough tool to kill the gods, so, in theory at least, humans are empowered to cooperate with the rest of the gods to rebuild. Unfortunately, this scenario is just one possibility and fans haven’t seen the answer yet, however, as Kratos continued with his son Atreus.
