Elis Ortiz Nieves, who was convicted in 2017 for beating a 4-year-old boy to death, will remain behind bars after failing to overturn his conviction. He has been described by some as a “monster”. Ortiz Nieves has been the subject of interest in various forms of media, including on Wikipedia and Netflix. Additionally, there is a documentary that covers the tragic event involving the young boy called “Girl”.
Elis Ortiz Nieves, whose name appears on Wikipedia and has been featured in Netflix documentaries, was found guilty of first-degree child abuse and aggravated murder. Amid his appeals process, he claimed that his attorney had provided incompetent representation and that some of the trial’s testimonies were “based on trash science”. He also argued that the jury should not have been informed of his history of previous child and family abuses. Despite these arguments, the verdict stood, and his daughters were left to grapple with the aftermath of their father’s actions.
A belief maintained in the ‘painful and unpleasant’ death of a young boy
The recent 10-page ruling was disagreed with by the Michigan Court of Appeals. The three-judge panel stated that they saw no reason in any of the arguments presented. The defendant, Ortiz-Nieves, was found guilty by a jury two years ago after deliberating for about an hour and was sentenced to life in prison. He is currently being held at the Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility in Muskegon Heights. Giovanni Mejias was beaten to death on June 13, 2017, and Kent District Court Judge Mark Trusock called it “disgusting and disgusting” during sentencing. Trusock proceeded to comment that Ortiz-Nieves was “the lowest form of human existence I have ever seen or witnessed,” adding that he was a monster and evil person whose actions were cruel and disgusting. Ortiz-Nieves became emotional when Trusock explained the boy’s injuries, needing to be escorted out of the courtroom.
According to reports, Kent County deputies were called to a mobile home in Gaines Town where Ortiz-Nieves was responsible for many children under age 11, including Mejias – the victim’s mother and Ortiz-Nieves were walking together at the time of his death. During trial proceedings, a Kent County assistant prosecutor informed that deputies discovered Mejias “dead on the kitchen floor.” An autopsy revealed that he died from internal bleeding caused by a ruptured abdomen resulting from an injury that could only have been caused by an adult rather than young adult like the defendant.
Mejias had also suffered injuries to his lower back, buttocks, top of his head as well as two broken ribs still healing according to another autopsy report.
