From 2009 to 2020, Marcus worked as a Senior Lecturer (Privatdozent, permanent), Institute for Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, University of Zurich, Switzerland. Since 2021, he has been a professor (full professor) in the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Zurich in Switzerland.
