Jeremiah Raber was born to Larry Hiltabidel and Sherry. But he didn’t find this out until the fifth season of Return of the Amish after he took a DNA test that showed Dennis (who he claimed to be his father) was not his biological father.
For those new to Return of the Amish, Dennis (who was married to Jeremiah’s birth mother) appeared on the show multiple times. He claimed to be the father of Jeremiah. But when the Return of the Amish star didn’t feel the “spark” he expected when he met his birth family, he took a DNA test.
When it comes to Jeremiah’s journey to find his birth father, it certainly wasn’t easy. From hitting a dead end with a potential father to bonding with blood relatives, he’s been on an emotional roller coaster. He even met his relatives and even talked to his grandmother on the phone.
But when he finally found his father, he was already dead.
Apparently, Jeremiah did not take the news well. His hopes of meeting his father and building a father-son bond were dashed in an instant. The stress even helped his infertility.

Larry Hiltabidel is the biological father of Jeremiah Raber.
He was born in Cuyahoga Falls to parents Ronald and Mona Hiltabida. Additionally, she has brothers named Jeffery, Thomas, and David and sisters named William Peters, Darlene Parks, and Duane Rex.

What happened to Larry Hiltabidel?
Larry Hiltabide was murdered by his wife Sheila Hiltabide! He was reportedly stabbed to death in his home and he died at Barton Citizen’s Hospital at 11:52 pm, some two hours later.
A detective on his team, Mosley, said: “We don’t know for sure what led to the stabbing, but what we do know are some of the events that happened that night.”
But according to Jeremiah, while his mother was married to Dennis, she had an affair with his sister’s husband, Larry. And that’s when she got pregnant. Therefore, after the truth came out, Larry’s wife (his mother’s sister) killed him.
Reports say that Larry was out late with friends when he returned home around 10:00 p.m. only to be stabbed in the chest by his wife. He then made it out of the house and the neighbors quickly called 911. Unfortunately, help came too late and he took his last breath two hours later.
Also, around the time Larry was killed off, Mystic and Aaron Raber adopted the star of Return of the Amish. More precisely, Jeremiah was born in January 1980 and was taken from his biological mother that same year. He was then officially adopted only later in 1981.
As for Larry’s wife, Sheila pleaded guilty to manslaughter in court. She received a plea deal with a sentence of 5 to 25 years in prison. But four years later she too died at the age of 33.
Thanks to this tragic event, Jeremiah now blames himself for his father’s death.
