Brian Kahrs in Netflix’s Outlast
Of the actors in the first season of the Netflix series, Brian Kahrs was the oldest. But when it came to surviving in the wild, his age was no barrier. Immediately after entering the competition, Brian joined Javier Colón, Timothy “Tim” Spears and Corey Johnson at Bravo Camp. The first night, the group struggled to find a place to sleep and rest, and Javier tried to take control as much as he could, much to the annoyance and amusement of his friends.
Javier’s teammates were angry with him for not being able to light Camp Bravo the first night, though Brian seemed less offended than the others. Soon after, the ex started a fire, but Tim and Corey were irritated by his continued behavior. The two eventually made the decision to leave because they didn’t think they could survive much longer in the Alaskan wilderness, especially with Javier’s “micromanagement.”
Now that there were only two left, Brian and Javier did their best to hold out and make the most of their situation. As they got to know each other better, they quickly discovered their ideal dynamic. They also joined forces with Alpha Camp, allowing them to get the crab pot even if Brian couldn’t use his raft to get to the necessary island. Bravo Camp soon realized that the alliance might not be what they expected.
Brian and Javier were approached by Alpha Camp, who discovered their intentions to cross the river and take items from the other two camps. The two men were shocked by this as they did not like the concept. However, there was quite a commotion when his helpers entered the Delta camp and took the three sleeping bags.
Brian was horrified by this behavior and struggled to understand how anyone could behave in such a way given the challenging circumstances he was facing. After the robbery, Brian woke up early and set off a flare. This was because he realized that using strategies that he considered “disgusting” was the only way to prevail in the competition. Due to this, he decided to leave the show.
Brian did not tell Javier about his decision to leave because he believed that his teammate could persuade him to stay. He wrote him a letter in which he apologized and expressed his regret for leaving without saying goodbye to him.

Brian Kahrs is a long-time construction worker-turned-actor. He was a noted athlete and artist when he was an elementary school student on Long Island. He started lifting weights at the age of 8 after an older neighborhood kid convinced him that lifting weights every day would soon make him “the toughest kid on the block.”
Growing up, Brian spent very little time indoors. He spent all of his spare time playing street sports and discovering hidden forest areas on Long Island. He started working as a paperboy after school when he was 10 years old. During his academic career, he also worked night shifts in restaurants and factories. Due to his constant mischievous and hilarious antics in high school, his instructors and classmates gave him the nickname “Ziggy”, which they chose after a famous newspaper cartoon character of the time.

Later in his life, Brian would use his initial training in video production to succeed as a viral video creator. After high school, he will begin a long and difficult career in construction.
Brian worked as a paver for a while before transitioning to the bricklayer trade as an apprentice. He worked as a full-time master mason for more than 40 years, laying blocks non-stop. He estimates that during his career his gun laid more than 1.5 million bricks.
