According to the official synopsis for the series, Naked & Afraid: Solo features intertwining stories set in locations on three continents: the South American jungle, the African jungle, and the Mexican desert. In each episode, various survivors put their survival skills and wits to the test, and of course some of them will drop to their knees.
Suzanne previously appeared on season 9 of Naked and Scared, a show that pits two strangers, usually a man and a woman, against nature. She was selected for the show after undergoing serious medical and psychiatric tests.
Suzanne and her partner were thrown into the Brazilian desert. The only people remaining were the cameraman, sound man, field producer, and local medical staff, all of whom left overnight.
In an interview, when asked why she decided to participate in Naked & Afraid, Suzanne revealed that her boyfriends (sons) wanted her to take up the challenge. Suzanne said: “They kept saying, ‘Mom, you’d be so much better than her,’ and ‘You’d be great.’ should be on [the show].’ They kept saying that, and after a few weeks I was like, ‘Okay. I’ll sign up.’”
For Suzanne, the biggest challenge of the venture was the location and the lack of water or food, not being naked. “The hardest thing for me was worrying that potential haters would judge me based on my decisions and actions,” Suzanne said. “My biggest fear was letting my kids down because I’m not as strong as they think I am.”
Suzanne was preparing for the reality show, mainly building muscle in case she or her partner couldn’t find food. However, surviving alone is something she learned as a child. “My childhood prepared me for this episode. My mother left a strong mark on my life, but in a very negative way,” Suzanne said.

Speaking of Suzanne’s upbringing, she dropped out of high school in Missouri at the age of 16. She later got her GED from her. From 1992 to 1996, Suzanne studied Occupational Therapy at Saint Louis University before earning her Master of Business Administration specializing in Health Care Administration at the University of Phoenix. Eventually, Suzanne completed her PhD in Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Suzanne Zeta currently works two jobs. First, she is Vice President of Operations at VBHRC Virginia Catalyst, and second, she is Senior Clinical Research Coordinator at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Her main area of research involves mitigating cognitive decline in people with metastatic brain tumors receiving radiation therapy.
Previously, Suzanne worked as an occupational therapist at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, where her primary work was to provide occupational therapy assessments and interventions in the following service areas: surgical oncology, hematologic oncology, gynecologic oncology, otolaryngology, unit Bone Marrow Transplantation Department, and the Department of Palliative Care.
In September 2020, Suzanne published a chapter titled “Home and Community Health” in a book titled “Cancer and Occupational Therapy”.
