Make sure your Mac is compatible with macOS 14
Before you download macOS 14, it’s important to check if your Mac supports it. When announcing the new version of macOS, Apple also specified which Macs can run it. They include:

- MacBook Pro from 2018 or later
- Mac Mini from 2018 or later
- Mac Pro 2019 or later

Download macOS 14
As of this writing, macOS 14 Sonoma is not widely available, but it is available for download now to a select group of developers, and will be available to a broader group of Apple beta testers in the coming weeks before a general release later this year. Once you’ve decided to download macOS 14 and you’re sure your Mac is compatible, don’t forget to back up your most important information before upgrading, just to be on the safe side. You shouldn’t lose anything, but it’s always a good idea. If you’re upgrading a MacBook, make sure the power cord is plugged in.
When you’re ready, follow these steps.
