Until recently, Warner Bros. was known as the best studio in Hollywood at marketing its movies. Remember that great campaign of 2016 suicide squad? Yes, and I fully believe that the cause was the marketing, not the terrible movie itself. suicide squad grossing over $700 million worldwide. (Yes, he really did make that much money!)
Lately, though, the studio’s marketing has gotten a bit desperate. Last year black adam had a secret Henry Cavill cameo in Superman that The Rock “accidentally” revealed just before the film was released. WB has doubled down on their next DC movie, Shazam! wrath of the gods, spoiling the post-out credits of that film, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, by including it in a commercial on national television two weeks before its release. Never mind that her cameo was actually a key plot point in the Shazam! continuation; WB should have put the lights in the theaters, no matter the cost. The director of that film, David F. Sandberg, was not very happy and the film flopped anyway.
Now, it seems, they are desperate again, as FlashDirector Andy Muschietti revealed in an interview with Esquire Middle East that Nicolas Cage’s Superman will appear in the upcoming Ezra Miller/Michael Keaton DC Comics movie. If some of you are wondering which movie Cage appeared in as Superman, rest assured; the actor never officially appeared in a movie like the Man of Steel. In one of the great canceled film productions of the 20th century, Cage was to appear as Kal-El in the superman livesgoing so far as to test costumes and makeup for director Tim Burton, before the project was scrapped for reasons too complex to discuss here.

as it is now, Flash will feature appearances by Michael Keaton’s stoic version of Batman, Ben Affleck’s boring version of Batman, a new Supergirl who looks nothing like Supergirl or acts at all, a General Zod who nobody cared about to begin with , and another version of The Flash with longer hair. and an even worse sense of humor from “normal” Barry. Now we’re going to see a cameo version of a character we’ve never seen on the big screen before, by an actor who was never right for the part and is now too old to do it justice.
Why is Cage’s Superman even in the movie? Who wants to see this? And since it’s all on the table now, where’s Adrienne Barbeau’s cameo? it was in 1982 swamp thing, after all. And why not have the AI bring George Reeves to life as Superman? Adam West as Batman? This is nostalgia baiting at its most cynical and desperate, and maybe it will work.
