Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo receives a tax bill of N18.6 million from the Lagos state government. She was given a seven-day ultimatum to settle the tax debt.

Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State government handed Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo a hefty tax bill of N18,640,092.00, as personal income tax.
According to a document obtained by mandynews.com, he was given a seven-day ultimatum to comply with his tax obligations.
A document dated 22 May 2023 from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) states that Ms Ojo owes a tax liability of N7,376,000.00 for the income year 2022 and has an outstanding tax liability of N11, 264,092.00 for the year of income 2021. .
The letter says:
“INCOME TAX LIQUIDATION NOTICE FOR THE YEAR OF INCOME (2022) We refer to the Income Statement and claims for deductions and allowances (presentation of returns) presented on our platform Etax.lirs.net corresponding to the year of the income 2022. Based on the review of your return and pursuant to Section 54 of the Personal Income Tax Law, you are hereby assessed a tax liability of N7,376,000.00 as set forth in the notice evaluation attached. Consequently, you have an outstanding obligation of N11,264,092.00 per Earning Year 2021. You agree to pay the total sum of N18,640,092.00 to the National Treasury through any of the aforementioned banks within seven (7) days after upon receipt of this letter.”
In response to the notice, Iyabo Ojo, who is popular for his roles in Nollywood movies, has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
LIRS also indicated in the letter that non-compliance with the directives would result in the imposition of penalties and interest as provided in Sections 76 and 77 of said Act. The document further establishes that making a false statement is a punishable offense under Section 96 of the Act.
This development underscores the government’s commitment to improve tax compliance in the country, especially among high income earners.
