One of the most popular movies of the 1980s, the story never ends A preliminary adaptation of Michael Ende’s 1979 novel into millennials fantasy is still cited today. Much of the film’s appeal stems from its colorful cast of characters, many of whom are creatures of darkness, luck, and magic. They come in both animal and human forms, and always leave fans in awe.
even less impressive creatures the story never ends They capture the audience’s full attention by taking basic animals like snails, bats, and horses and giving them new fun. However, the best creatures in the film are creatures that audiences may not have encountered anywhere else.
yada
Artax may technically be just a horse, but he was Atreyu’s faithful companion before he succumbed to the Swamp of Sorrow. He quickly kept the young hero from the grips of Gmork and The Nothing, and became Atreyu’s loyal mount for most of his adventures.
Many consider the loss of Artax to be the saddest moment in the film. It’s a truly harrowing moment, especially when Atreyu begs the horses to “fight the pain” as they sink in the swamp, only to turn back at the end.
swishing
Nighthob is the angry old neighbor of the group, and he almost yells at Rockbiter to get off his lawn. He, like many other representatives of the region, was sent by his people to enlist the help of the Virgin Queen to stop “Nothing”.
Nighthob is a hairy goblin with a hairy head, a large nose, and large ears. In the novels, the Nighthobs are a group of nocturnal humanoids that inhabit the southern regions of the land. Maybe in the movie he’s grumpy because he’s traveling when he should be resting, and he’s tired, like his bat friend.
sleepy bats
The Nighthob rides not your typical noble steed, but a nocturnal animal like it: a sleepy bat, or as it calls “my stupid bat”. Even so, the bat is cute and some fans even prefer it to its rider, even though it dozes off mid-flight.
There’s actually another interesting character with bat wings in the books: Smerg, a dragon with a scorpion tail and grasshopper legs. He is a creature of Bastian’s imagination, not a real story. The novel also features the harmful bat-winged rat.
Mora, Ancients
Atreyu is frustrated with Mora, the giant tortoise that lives in the Swamp of Grief. The ancient existence was not only allergic to Atreyu, but completely indifferent to nothingness. In the book, Morla tells him the Queen needs a new name, sending him to the Prophet of the South, but in the movie Morla doesn’t help at all.
It’s hard to like a giant reptile after Artax’s death just to travel and get nothing out of it, but it’s also pretty funny and it’s so big it’s impossible not to be impressive.
Pyornkrachzark (Stone Crusher)
In a way, he can be considered the most annoying character in the story: he’s loud and clueless, and almost causes a landslide when he eats. But the Pyornkrachzark, or Rockbiter, is a kind and loving creature unlike most other animals. He has a bad conscience in the movie because he’s not good enough to stop Nothing and save his friends on his own, leaving audiences heartbroken for the stone creature.
The sequel depicting Pyornkrachzark and his family portrays them as more annoying, especially his son, but the original character will always be loved by many fans.
racing snail
Snails are usually cute in fantasy movies; check out the one with blue hair maze. racing snail the story never ends There’s no big character, but he’s very cute, more like a horse than a snail. When the snail rider told Rockbiter it was a racing snail, the giant was unimpressed until he saw the cute snail darting out onto the road.
The snail is ridden by Gluckuk, a boy who changes his name to Teeny Weeny in the film. The docile character is clearly portrayed by Deep Roy in a stylish outfit and a hat.
southern prophet
Uyulala, or Prophet of the South, is a much-needed female character in the film, guarded by three magical doors. In the book, she has to keep herself alive by singing. She knows everything, but a glimpse of her wisdom comes at a heavy price, as many heroes have discovered before.
Unlike many other characters, Nan Oracle is depicted on the screen destroyed by nothingness, which is ugly. Many consider the Gmork to be the scariest creature in the movie, but this scene, along with Atreyu going through the first door, is another memorable scene that terrified many.
Groman
one of the most interesting characters the story never ends Doesn’t appear on the big screen. Grograman, also known as The Many Colored Death, is a giant color-changing lion that guards the Goab, the desert of color. He turns into an obsidian at night and is said to be the first creature Bastian encounters in Fantasia (referred to as Fantastica in the books). Real fans will get to see him in the animated show.
Grograman is not only a wonderful creature but also a friend of Bastian and gave him his sword, Sikander. This is important because he doesn’t like anyone else in Fantastica.
imaginary citizen
Fantasia’s colorful citizens are amazing. It’s a shame they’re only on screen for a moment, because there’s a bit to enjoy: bird’s head, tagline, two-headed man. They gathered on the steps of the ivory tower, waiting for her to lead the war against nothingness.
Considering that in the text, the citizens are literally forced to jump into nothingness as they approach it, it sounds like a dire situation they are trying to escape. In the second movie, we see more of them, but their costumes and makeup aren’t quite as magical as in the original.
mistake
Everyone’s favorite Lucky Dragon spawns the blue flame in the books and he looks more like a lion-like dog. He also has incredible talents like sleeping in flight, constantly absorbing heat and air, meaning he never has to eat. Getting into the water is also dangerous for the book-Falkor. Both versions of Falkor are life saving friends who give good advice and help Bastian and Atreyu which is why he is so beloved.
Movie-Falkor is cute, fun, and the pet that every kid wanted in the 1980s, with the exception of the mogwai. He is still popular to this day and has a wide range of Falkor merchandise, including the Friendly Beast stuffed animal.
